Stanley W. Berghuis, age 76 of Kaukauna, died peacefully at home with his family at his side on June 3, 2016. We will be forever grateful for his example of how to live a loving and humble life.
Stan was born in Appleton on July 2, 1939, to the late Peter and Nellie (Ebben) Berghuis. He enlisted in the US Army in 1959 and served 3 years in Germany.
Stan married Darlene Diedrich on October 2, 1963, at Holy Cross Church in Kaukauna; the couple shared 52 beautiful years together.
He was a member of the VFW Post 3319 and a proud member of the Lionel Train Collector's Club. He also enjoyed working on the restoration of an old Chevy truck with his son-in-law. He was also a skilled electrician and retired from the Kimberly Mill in 2001.
Stan is survived by his wife: Darlene Berghuis; a daughter: Amy James, MD; a son-in-law: Alan James, MD; and two beautiful grandchildren: Meredith and Harrison. Stan is further survived by two sisters: Joan Kolosso and Carol (Peter) Kessler. Also surviving him are his wife's family: Joyce Reiter, Carol (Jack) Wydeven, and Jack (Nancy) Diedrich. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, six brothers-in-law, two brothers and sisters-in-law and his in-laws: John and Gladys Diedrich.
The funeral liturgy for Stan will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 6, 016 at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna, with Fr. Tom Pomeroy officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather directly at the church on Monday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.
Our family wishes to extend special thanks to Bellin Cancer Team, Bellin Hospital, and Unity Hospice. Gratitude beyond words is extended to Amy and Alan's friends and coworkers whose care and compassion are deeply appreciated. We also offer a very special thank you to Todd, a friend indeed.
