    Merkes, Daniel RobertMay 2 9, 1951- March 19, 2005Birthplace: Appleton, Wisconsin. Resided In: Orland, California.Daniel, age 53, son of Carmen and the late Norbert Merkes passed away aft er a six month courageous battle with complications from the West Nile Vir us. His passionate heart and his brave spirit will be missed by all who kn ew him.He is survived by his wife Jane (Gitter) Merkes, his mother Carmen (Dierme ier) Merkes, four sisters: Susan (Mike) Hoffman, Barb (Carl) Miller, Jo an Merkes (fiance Scott Heiman), Chris (Jon) Bloch, all of Wisconsin; in-l aws: Lester and Mary Gitter, Ruth and Rob Rauen, Paul and Lynette Gitte r, Andy and Mary Gitter, Theresa and Mike Woods, Joe and Sandy Gitter, A my and Daniel Mueller, all of Wisconsin, Kevin and Melissa Gitter of Arizo na; 26 nieces and nephews; and six great-nieces and nephews.Daniel lived in California for the past 30 years. Over the past few mont hs we witnessed his love and devotion for his wife Jane and the steadfa st friendship of his close friend Mark. Daniel loved life on his small ran ch. He kept his yard full of blooming roses. He enjoyed his neighbors, rid ing his motorcycle and walks thru his eucalyptus grove with his faithful c ompanion, his dog Alex.There will be a memorial service for Daniel at St. Denis Catholic Churc h, Shiocton on Friday, April 8th. Visit with family from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m ., with a mass following at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be ma de to a memorial fund.
