Obituary:
Marie Ottilda Hartjes, of Combined Locks, was welcomed home into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on July 12, 2016 at the age of 98. Marie was born to Helena (Eichenbusch) Leick and Emil Leick on December 24, 1917 in Kaukauna, Wisconsin. She married the love of her life, Edward Hartjes on May 28, 1937 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kaukauna. Marie and Ed made their home in Combined Locks and were lifelong members of St. Paul's Catholic Church.
Marie was a person of deep faith. She was blessed with many talents and she used those talents for the betterment of her church, her family and her community. Marie was a great cook and shared her talent making pies and cookies for an untold number of church functions. She was an excellent seamstress and made more than 400 baptismal garments for the babies baptized at St. Paul's. She was a person of great love and compassion. Marie always had a smile on her face and a kind word for anyone she met.
Marie enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards. She was an avid Packers fan, attending many games including the 2nd Super Bowl. Marie especially enjoyed spending time with Ed at their cottage in Lac du Flambeau where they loved to fish and entertain family and friends.
Marie is survived by her sister, Betty Vander Wyst of Combined Locks; sisters-in-law Helen Mertens of Dale and Lucina Jandrey of Kaukauna; and many nieces and nephews.
She is proceeded in death by her parents Helena and Emil, husband Edward, brothers and sisters: Elmer (Ann) Leick, Eldor (Hildegard) Leick, Nicholas (Phoebe) Leick; sisters and brothers-in-laws: Delores (Hilton) Schuh, Florence (Julius) Hartjes, Helen (Robert) Sachs, and brother-in-law, Roger Vander Wyst; and Ed's siblings and their spouses.
Funeral Services for Marie will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 15, at ST. PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 E. Wallace Street, Combined Locks with Fr. Andrew Kysely officiating. Marie will be missed by her family and friends but we will always have warm and loving memories of her and we know that she is happy in her reward in Heaven where she was welcomed with the words, "Well done good and faithful servant."
