    Chris Vils 321 W. Eighth St., Kaukauna, Age 84, passed away in New London at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday after a two week illness. He was born in Berne, Switzerland, Feb. 6, 1878 and lived in Kaukauna for 77 years. Mr. Vils was a member of the Quarter Century Club of Thilmany Pulp and Paper Co. where he worked for 35 years retiring in 1945. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Herbert Trettin and Mrs. John Niesz, both of Kaukauna; four sons, George, Gerald and William all of Kaukauna and Kenneth, Glendale, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Katherine Gallatin, Kenosha, Wis.; 19 grandchildren. Funeral services will be Thursday at 9 a.m. at St. Marys Catholic church, Kaukauna with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Peter Salm in charge. Burial in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Kaukauna after 2 p.m. Wednesday and the rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

    Joseph H. Vils Dies Following Year's Illness-Funeral Services to be Held Saturday Morning at St. Mary's Church
    Joseph H. Vils, aged 47 years, passed away at his home, 319 Reaume Avenue Thursday morning shortly after 5 o'clock following an illness of about a year.
    The deceased was born in the town of Buchanan on April 9, 1887 and has been a resident of this vicinity his entire life. He was a common laborer and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church. He was married to Louise Kappell at St. Mary's Catholic church by Rev. F.X. Steinbrecher on April 5, 1910.
    Survivors are his widow, one daughter, Mrs. Matt Klein, Appleton; one sister, Mrs. John Gallatin, Kenosha, and two brothers, Christ and Gus Vils both of Kaukauna.
    Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock Saturday morning from St. Mary's Schur with Rev. A. Roder, pastor in charge. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
    The body was taken to the home on Reaume avenue Thursday afternoon where it will remain until the time of services Saturday morning.

    Funeral to Be Conducted at 9 O'clock in Monring at Church
    Kaukauna-Funeral services for Raymond Vils, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Vils, 116 West Tenth-st, who was accidentally killed in the Thilmany Pulp and Paper Co., plant here Monday morning, will be held at 9 o'clock Thursday morning at St. Mary's Catholic church. Rev. Conrad Ripp will be in charge of the services and burial will be in the church cemetery.
    Vils was instantly killed about 8 o'clock Monday morning when a cable he was using to raise a heavy roll of paper broke dropping the roll on his head. His skull was fractured, causing instant death. No one was near when the accident happened. An investigation by Stanley A. Staidl, district attorney, indicated death was accidental, and no inquest will be held.
    A member of the Little Chute football team this year, Vils also was connected with other athletics here. He played baseball last summer in the Littel Fox league, was a member of several amateur football teams sponsored by the American legion post here and was interested in softball during the summer. He graduated from St. Mary's parochial school and spent three years in Kaukauna high school.
    Survivors are the parents; four brothers, George, Jerry, Billy and Kenneth; two sisters, Lillian and Alice.

    Obituary:
    Gerald E. Vils, Kaukauna, age 95, passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at Parkside Care Center in Little Chute. He was born November 12, 1914, in Biramwood, WI, to the late Christian and Ella (Baird) Vils. Jerry lived in Kaukauna since 1922, attending St. Mary's Grade School and graduating from Kaukauna High School in 1934. He also attended Lake Forest College. Jerry worked at Thilmany Pulp & Paper for 41 years, retiring in 1977. Jerry's life-long passions were: spending time at his cottage on Lake Winnebago, hunting, fishing, all ball sports, gardening, providing all his friends and neighbors with fresh vegetables, and spending time with his family. Jerry was a life-long member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Kaukauna. He was also a member of the Ox Bow Sportman's Club, Knights of Columbus, Thilmany Quarter Century Club, Kaukauna Alumni Association, Rod & Gun Club, Elks, and was inducted into the KHS Hall of Fame.
    He is survived by two daughters: Darlene "Dar" (Dan) Arndt, Kaukauna; Susan (Tim) Landreman, Fremont; two daughters-in-law: Jeanette Vils, Sobieski; Judi Vils, Scandinavia; a son-in-law, Jay Biersteker, Darboy; a sister, Lillian Niesz, Kaukauna, a sister-in-law, Racquel Vils, LA, California; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
    He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Margaret (Hoehne), his children: Raymond and Richard Vils, and Kristine Biersteker; his parents, five brothers: Leo, William, Raymond, George, and Ken; three sisters: Alyce Trettin, Blanch, and Edith; brothers-in-law: Herb Trettin and John Niesz; sisters-in-law: Stella and Fran.
    The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 27, 2010, at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH at ST. MARY SITE, 119 W. 7th St., Kaukauna, with Fr. Jerry Pastors officiating. Friends will be received directly at church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.     Lillian (nee Vils) Niesz age 89, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at Unity Hospice following a courageous battle with leukemia. She was born September 7, 1921, daughter of the late Chris and Ella (Baird) Vils. On July 21, 1957, Lil married John Niesz at St. Mary Catholic Church in Kaukauna. The couple lived in Kaukauna their entire married lives. John preceded her in death on October 16, 1989. Lil loved fast pitch softball, playing cards, time spent with her grandchildren and her time spent up at Crooked Lake. She also enjoyed being a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and her time spent volunteering for St. Mary's activities, functions, and the Ladies Altar Society.
    She is survived by her daughter Shannon (Mark) King, Ashwaubenon; four grandchildren: Alexis, Ross, Colin, and Walker; two great-granddaughters: Madison and Braelyn; and a sister-in-law, Racquel Vils. She is further survived by special friends, Paula and Dwayne Beyer, Kaukauna, numerous nieces and nephews. She is further survived by her husband's family: Joe Niesz, Ann Hagany, Rosie Niesz, Jack Rogers, and Ethel Niesz.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, six brothers: Bill, Ray, George, Leo, Jerry, and Ken; three sisters: Blanche Vils, Edith Vils, and Alyce Trettin.
    A Memorial Service for Lillian will be held at 4 p.m. on Monday, January 10, 2011, at St. Katharine Drexel Parish at St. Mary Site, 119 W. Seventh St., Kaukauna; friends may call directly at church from 2 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in her name.     Appleton - Rose H. Voigt, age 103, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, December 21, 2017, at Rennes Health Care Center. Rose was born in Kaukauna on September 16, 1914, to the late August and Elizabeth (Nushart) Vils. On April 26, 1941, she was united in marriage to Lawrence Voigt - the couple enjoyed nearly 50 years together until his death in 1990. Rose worked as a CNA in the newborn nursery at St. Elizabeth Hospital for 25 years. Rose loved travelling, camping, walking, and baking. She was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Parish for many years.
    She is survived by her son Ron and daughter-in-law Noreen Voigt, Appleton; two granddaughters: Molly and Megan Voigt, Appleton; and great grandson, Carter. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law Stella Vils.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lawrence, three brothers: Joseph, Frank, and Richard (Donna) Vils; and four sisters: Blanche (Clarence) Hansen, Alice Vils, Grace (Vincent) Jansen, and Marie (Jerome) Truyman.
    A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 am on Wednesday, December 27th, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 222 E. Fremont St., Appleton, with Father Donald Zuleger officiating. Friends and family may visit in the Sacred Heart Room at church on Wednesday from 10 am until the time of service. Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
    The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Sheila Thiel and the entire staff at Rennes Health Care Center for the compassionate care given to Rose.

    On August 2, 2009, our mother left her worldly home to enjoy eternal life with her Lord and her loving husband Vincent. Grace A. Jansen, 91, died at Parkside Care Center. She was born in Kaukauna on July 21, 1918, to the late August and Elizabeth (Neusart) Vils. Grace married Vincent L. Jansen at St. Mary's Parish in Kaukauna on May 18, 1946. He preceded her in death on May 26, 1999. Grace was an avid reader and walker. She also camped in Minocqua and golfed in earlier years. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

    Alice Vils, of Little Chute, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2007, at a local nursing home. She was born August 8, 1916, in Kaukauna, daughter of the late August and Elizabeth (Nushart) Vils. As a young woman, Alice was employed for a time by the Badger Tissue Mill and Kaukauna Klub Cheese. She was also a member of the Kaukauna Golden Agers Club.
    Alice is survived by her siblings: Rose Voigt of Appleton; Grace Jansen of Little Chute; Marie (Jerome) Truyman of Kaukauna; Richard Vils of Chippewa Falls; a sister-in-law: Stella Vils of Kaukauna; a good friend Beverly School, and many nieces, nephews, and their children whom she loved very much.

    Marie Truyman, Kaukauna, age 90, died at her home Wednesday January 14, 2015. She was born in Kaukauna on August 8, 1924 to the late August and Elizabeth (Nushart) Vils. Marie married Jerome J. Truyman on February 14, 1950 at St. Mary's Church in Kaukauna. They shared 57 years of marriage before his death on September 23, 2007. Marie was an avid reader, enjoyed travelling, spending time up north, and was always concerned about the welfare of others. She treasured times with her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren meant the world to her, and she was anxiously awaiting the arrival of her triplet great grandchildren due in April.

    In addition to her parents and husband Jerome, Marie was preceded in death by her brothers: Joseph, Frank and Richard (Donna) Vils; sisters: Blanche (Clarence) Hansen, Alice Vils and Grace (Vincent) Jansen; and brothers-in-law: Benedict (Geraldine) Truyman, Robert Fuerst and William Knapp.

    Richard C. Vils, 80, of 582 Maitland Drive, Chippewa Falls died Saturday, July 12, 2008, at the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis.
    He was born Jan. 9, 1928, in Kaukauna, the son of August and Elizabeth (Nushart) Vils. He earned a pharmaceutical degree from UW-Madison. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a medic. Richard married Donna Carey on Oct. 3, 1953, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Appleton. He owned and operated Badger Pharmacy for many years. He was a member of Holy Ghost Church and the Knights of Columbus Goldsmith Council 974. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, biking, canoeing, fishing and spending time with his family - especially the family vacation. He hugged everybody he met.
    Richard is survived by three sons, Michael of Knoxville, Tenn., James (Mary) of Oshkosh and Daniel (Karen) of Mosinee; two daughters, Kathy (Bryan) Querberg of Fair Haven, Minn., and Mary Joles of Chippewa Falls; three sisters, Rose Voight of Appleton, Grace Jansen of Little Chute and Marie Truyman of Kaukauna; and nine grandchildren, Jerrod, Katie, Joseph, Maggie, Sarah, Chris and Nathan Vils, Shawn Querberg and Sheila Joles.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; his parents; two brothers, Joseph and Frank Vils; and two sisters, Alice Vils and Blanche Hanson.
    Funeral services will be at noon on Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at Holy Ghost Church, Chippewa Falls. The Rev. Edmund Doerre will be celebrant of the funeral Mass. Interment will be in Hope Cemetery, Chippewa Falls, with military rites conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council.
    Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday, July 16, at Holy Ghost Church, Chippewa Falls.

    Lee G. Vils, age 64, of Appleton, passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2016. He was born on November 13, 1951 to the late George and Frances (DeCoster) Vils in Appleton. Lee graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1970. He then proudly served his country in the U.S. Army (Military Police) for three years in Germany. He was employed with Thilmany paper mill in Kaukauna for over thirty years as a truck driver before his retirement in 2011.
    In his free time Lee enjoyed just about anything that had to do with cars - model cars, fixing cars and car shows. Lee was also a huge "history buff", he loved watching the History Channel. Above all his fondest memories were those spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
    Lee is survived by his wife, Beverly; his three sons, Nathan (Kelly), Graham (Cassie) and Devon Vils; step-children, James (Crystal) Short and Becky (Juan) Padilla and thirteen grandchildren. He his further survived by his two sisters, Sandra (David) Doerfler and Gwynne (Richard) Sauer and many nieces, nephews and other dear relatives.
    A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at HIGHLAND MEMORIAL PARK, 3131 N. Richmond Street in Appleton.     William M. De Valk, 56, Little Chute, died unexpectedly Tuesday November 29, 2011 at Theda Clark Medical Center while surrounded by his loving family. Mick was born in Kaukauna on July 7, 1955 to the late Jack and Barbara (Vils) De Valk. He married his high school sweetheart, Cindy Roovers, on October 16, 1975 at St. Paul Parish in Combined Locks.
    Mick's love for life was fueled by his devotion to family. His love for Cindy and marriage of 36 years is inspirational. In addition to being a nuturing father, he was a coach, mentor and best friend to each of his children. Papa's highlight of each day was coming home to his two grandchildren, DJ and Brycen, participating in their sporting activities and teaching them valuable life lessons.
    Mick touched so many lives in the local community through coaching grade school basketball, JETS football and serving as a member of the Little Chute Fire Department for many years. His smile, amazing personality and enthusiasm was contagious. Mick was also an avid Brewers and Packer fan and a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church. After working at Larry's Piggly Wiggly for 32 years, Mick became the parts manager at Excellence Electric.
