Ellen "Marie" Vande Voort, age 88, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2011, at St. Mary's Hospital in Green Bay. She was born September 21, 1922, to the late Antone and Ann (Lewins) Smits. On May 9, 1942, she was united in marriage to Merlin "Jim" Vande Voort. He preceded her in death on June 17, 1993. Marie was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Oneida, where she was active on the ladies funeral committee and the Christian Mothers. She was a volunteer at Anna John Nursing Home and The Good Shepherd Nursing Home. Marie loved time spent at her cabin in Lakewood, especially with her family. She enjoyed fishing, card playing, gardening, canning and especially baking cookies.
She is survived by her children: William Vande Voort, Oneida; Ruth Ann Boyea, Kaukauna; Patrick (Bonnie) Vande Voort, Oneida; Jean (Sam) Johnson, Oneida; Daniel (Gale) Vande Voort, Black Creek; Nicholas (Linda) Vande Voort, Seymour; Joseph (Dorothy) Vande Voort, Oconto; Jerry (Dawn) Vande Voort, Oneida; Thomas (special friend Robin) Vande Voort, Seymour; Barbara Scott, Appleton; David (Carol) Vande Voort, Seymour; daughter-in-law Jolene Vande Voort, Seymour; 29 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; sister Dorothy (Bill) Greasby, Lakewood; brother Don (Arlene) Smits, De Pere; sisters-in-law Dorothy "Fuzz" Smits and Kathleen "Primp" Zeutzuis.
She was preceded in death by: sons Kenneth and Mark and four grandchildren Amy, Lisa, Jimmy and Jeff; one brother Elmer Smits and two sisters Mabel Ebben and Leona "Huntz" Van Den Langenberg.
Friends may call at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour, on Monday, April 25, 2011, from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Oneida from 9 a.m. until funeral services at 11 a.m. with Father David Koch and Deacon Bobby Doxtator officiating.
