    Obituary:
    Christian Zittlow, Born 8-26-37, in Doelitz, Province Pomrenia, Germany, where he was baptized and confirmed. In 1856 he came at the age of 24 years together with his mother and brothers to America and made his home on a farm in the town of Lawrence.
    In 1861 he entered matrimony with Miss Rosina Schroeder and lived on the farm 37 years. Having sold his farm he came to Wrightstown as a retired farmer and lived he in our midst for 23 years. Six weeks ago his wife preceded him in death. He passed away at 6 pm on Dec. 14, at the age of 84 years, 3 mo. and 16 days. His death is mourned by one son, 6 grandchildren, many friends and relatives. The burial took place on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 18, at 2 o'clock from the house and then from St. John's Lutheran church, Re. F.C. Uetzmann officiated. Interment was at the local Lutheran Cemetery. The pallbearers were M. Meyer, W. Bohn, J. Schaeuble, F. Koepke, F. Kersten and G. Feldt.

    Obituary:
    One of the oldest settlers of this vicinity, Gottfried Zittlow of Ridge Point, born 1840, died Oct. 3 and was buried Oct. 6 from his home in the town of Lawrence after a residence of over 62 years in the old Zittlow homestead about 2 1/2 miles out of Wrightstown.
    Here came the Zittlow family consisting of the father (Should say Mother) and three sons, Frank who died here in Kaukauna a few years ago, Christ Zittlow, Lawrence and Gottfried who just died, and their combined labor carved out of the primeval forest three farms, in one of the most romantic spots on the Fox River. Everybody who has been to Ridge Point knows the location, as this popular resort was formerly a portion of the Zittlow farm. Across Apple Creek from Ridge Point is one of the Zittlow homes. Gottfried married Miss Ernestinea Schmeiderknecht March 1st, 1863 and on March 1st 1913 they celebrated their golden wedding. Mrs. Zittlow died two years ago. Mr. Zittlow was born in Germany, August 1st, 1840 and he leaves to mourn his death two sons and three daughters, Gust Zittlow, Lawrence; Fred Zittlow, De Pere; Mrs. Emma Mackin of Menasha, Mrs. Charles Holtz of Barron; and Mrs. Albert Kersten, Kaukauna, also 25 grandchildren and his Brother Christ Zittlow.
    Attending the funeral from Kaukauna were Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kersten, Miss Grace Kersten, Mrs. Frank Zittlow, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Zittlow, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Ristau and Mrs. William Lostin.
    The funeral services were held at the Ed. Lutheran church, Wrightstown. Rev. Fred Uetzman officiating and interment at the Local cemetery.

    Rudolph Zittlow, 83, operator of the Wrightstown hotel for 50 years died at his home here at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon. He had been an invalid for 6 years.
    Mr. Zittlow was born in the Town of Lawrence March 30, 1867 and operated a farm in the township before taking over the hotel.
    Survivors include his wife the former Amelia Tetzlaff, three daughters, Miss Ida and Arlene at home. And Mrs. Lawrence Aerts of Kaukauna; three sons, Robert and Frank at home and Ray of Green Bay.
    Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon in St. John. Burial at the church cemetery. The DeWane Funeral home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were August, Leland and Everett Tetzlaff, and Cliff, William and Edward Zittlow.

    Fred Zittlow, 77, a former resident of the town of Lawrence, died Saturday at the home of his son, Clifford Zittlow, route 5, Green Bay, after an illness of two months. Born in the town of Lawrence Nov. 19, 1878, he married May Phfotenhauer of Green Bay in 1903. They lived in the town of Lawrence for 14 years and at De Pere for seven years before moving to Pittsfield. Mrs. Zittlow died in 1950. Survivors are a daughter; three sons; 17 grandchildren; one Great grandchild; and a sister. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in Peace Lutheran church Kunesh. Burial was in St. John Lutheran cemetery Wrighstown.

    Clifford Carl Zittlow, age 90, died October 3, 2002. He was born August 21, 1912 in Wrightstown, Wisconsin to the late Fred and May (Pfotenhauer) Zittlow. On August 18, 1933 he was united in marriage to Leona Peterman at Friedens Lutheran Church, Slab City. Leona preceded him in death on May 29, 2001. At an early age, Clifford moved to the Pulaski area where he farmed until 1972. He worked for Gold Bond Ice Cream for 17 years. Clifford was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church, Kunesh, as a member of the Men's Brotherhood and served on the Church Council. After retirement, he built a retirement home in the Town of Pittsfield where he resided until his death.
    Survivors include two daughters: Betty (Marvin) Genke, Shawano Jean (Bernard) Lemmen, Kunesh four sons: Fred (Carole), New Franken Kenneth (Ellen), Allouez Clifford (Lynne), Bonduel Charles, Appleton a sister, Carroll Bruce, Green Bay 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona his parents two brothers, Herbert and Norbert and a grandson, Richard Genke.

    Frank "Rip" Winkel, a faithful child of God, was called home to His loving and waiting arms on Monday, October 17, 2016, surrounded by his loved ones. Frank was born in Green Bay on December 12, 1924, son of the late Max and Ida (Zittlow) Winkel. He was an outstanding athlete and lettered in many sports at Green Bay East High School. He was invited to try-out for the UW-Madison football squad, and Michigan State offered him a football scholarship, however World War II intervened, and military duty called. He served in the United States Navy as an Aviation Radio Man in the South Pacific, assigned to a squadron that transported the wounded. He was the humble recipient of several commendations, including the Presidential Certificate. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Betty Freeman, who was working at the Oakland Army Base. The couple married shortly after the war ended, on March 17, 1946. Frank graduated from Milwaukee School of Engineering, and eventually their family grew with the birth of four daughters. During these years, Rip operated Van Wink TV in Appleton. The couple was longtime members of First English Lutheran Church. In 1965, they built a cottage on Lake Poygan, and Rip called it "Paradise." He was so happy that he could spend his last months in "Paradise." Frank and Betty spent fifteen years of retirement in Florida, but eventually returned to what Rip called "God's Country." He was an avid fisherman, championship bowler, Packers shareholder, loved playing cards, camping, and watching westerns. Most of all, he loved being with his family.
    Frank is survived by three loving daughters: Kathy (Paul) Van Gompel of Hortonville; Susan (Dr. Jim) Rouse of Sherwood; and Wendy (Kirk) Meyer of Appleton.
    Frank's grandchildren are: Ryan Schultz, Ria Schultz, Natalia (John) Vasquez, Juan De La Cruz, Scott Schmidt - Gerhardt, Dr. Joshua (Amie) Van Gompel, Dr. Gabriel (Kristin) Van Gompel, Rachael (Andrew) Schley, Aaron Rouse, Dylan (Katie) Meyer, Corey Meyer, and Mason (Melissa) Meyer. His great-grandchildren include: Sage, Skyler, Ava, Morgan, Logan, Klara, Reese, Jude, Madison, Juanito, Emerie, Brando, Gabriel, and Sonya, There are also many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of nearly seventy years, Betty; a daughter: Judith Gerhardt; sisters: Alnett (Bernard) Miller and Doris (Donald) Joly; and sisters-in-law: Barbara (Neal) Fuller and Ruth (Claude) Seeds.
    The Christian Funeral Service for Rip will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, TRI COUNTY CHAPEL, 1592 Oneida Street in Menasha, with Rev. Paul Zittlow of St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church in Larsen officiating. Interment will held at 11:30 AM on Monday in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Kaukauna. Family and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Saturday afternoon from 3:00 PM until the time of the service.

    Alvin G. Ristow, 86, Appleton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007. He was born May 16, 1921, in Wrightstown to the late Wilhelm and Elizabeth (Kleuskens) Ristow. Alvin attended Green Bay West High School where he graduated in 1941. Alvin then served in the United States Air Force in the Pacific Theatre from 1942 until 1945. He married Ruth Grootemont on October 23, 1945, and they shared 61 years of marriage together. Alvin began his firefighting career in 1953 with the Appleton Fire Department and retired in 1979. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, and hunter and enjoyed watching Wisconsin Badgers and Green Bay Packer games.
    Alvin is lovingly survived by his children, Sue Ristow, Milwaukee; Robert (Judy) Ristow, New London; John Ristow and his special friend, Debra George, Crivitz; Rose Fischer, Las Vegas; Mary (Tom) Patza, Seymour; sister, Mildred Carbine, Appleton and brother, Merril Ristow, Florida. Alvin will also be sadly missed by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth and three children, William Ristow, Barbara Verrier and James Ristow.

    Obituary:
    Mr. Merril Ristow, age 90, formerly of Waupaca, passed away peacefully in Brooksville, Florida, on Wednesday, January 23, 2013. He was born on January 14, 1923, in Wrightstown, to the late Wilhelm and Elizabeth (Kleuskens) Ristow. Merril served in the United States Army during WWII in the Pacific Theatre until 1945. He was part of the "Greatest Generation" of military veterans. Merril worked for Kraft Foods in Green Bay and was transferred to Chicago, whereupon he joined the Pipefitters Union Local 597. He married Kathryn Schreiter, formerly of Appleton, on September 12, 1953. They resided in Elmhurst, Illinois. Merril worked the pipefitting trades in the Chicago area until joining the Chicago Tribune building operation in 1967, where he remained until his retirement.
    He is survived by one son, Paul Ristow of Appleton; three daughters and a son-in law; Elizabeth Ristow of Streamwood, IL; Kathryn Ristow of Palatine, IL; Christiaan and Janet (Ristow) Geerken of Iron Station, NC. Six grandchildren, Paula Stytz, Kevin Ristow, Laura Ristow, Matthew Ristow, Brian Mahnke, and David Mahnke and a great-grand son, Aiden Shannon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn; his son, Timothy, his sister, Mildred Carbine and his brother, Alvin Ristow.

    Mary Jane Stumpf, age 95, of Appleton, passed away at St. Paul Home, Kaukauna, on Saturday, April 30, 2016. Mary Jane was born on June 18, 1920, in Appleton, to the late Gustav and Henrietta (Kleuskens) Ristow. She married Donald Joseph Stumpf on September 11, 1948, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Appleton; he preceded her in death in 1983. Mary Jane was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Monte Alverno Retreat House member, and a life member of St. Elizabeth Hospital Auxiliary. She was employed at Prange, Kitz & Pfeil Hardware and Griesbach Grocery. Mary Jane was well-known for her bowling skills and sang in the St. Pius Catholic Church Funeral Choir for many years. She was dedicated to faith, love and service.
    Survivors include her son, Jeff Stumpf; her grandsons, Brian and Nathan Stumpf and their mother, Kathe Julin; her sisters, Elayne Schabow, Grace Wege and Carole Ristow; and her special friend, Joyce Nyman. Mary Jane is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her infant brothers, Kenneth and Melvin and her infant sister, Ione; her brothers, Gordon Ristow and Arvin Ristow; and her sister, Bernice Muraski; her sister-in-law, Janet; and her brothers-in-law, Leo and Lloyd.

    Wounds Fatal to Appleton Soldier
    Private Arvin J Ristow died Nov. 22 of wounds received in action on Nov. 20 in France, the war department has informed his wife, the former Ruth Grootemont, who lives at 510 W. College avenue. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Gust Ristow, 802 W. Harris street.
    Born Dec. 16, 1923, in Appleton, Ristow attended Appleton High school and was employed by the Gilbert Paper company, Menasha, before entering the service March 3, 1943. He was a member of St. Mary church, the Holy Name society and the Catholic War Veterans.
    Entering the army, he trained at Fort Lewis, Wash., took part in the Louisiana maneuvers and then was stationed at Camp Phillips, Kans., before going overseas in September. He served with the military police of an infantry division.
    Survivors, besides the wife and parents, are one brother, Sergeant Gordon, Warrensburg, Mo.; and five sisters, Mrs. Leo Muraski, Appleton, and Mary Jane, Elaine, Grace and Carol, at home.
    A requiem high mass has been arranged for 9 o'clock Tuesday morning at St. Mary church.

    Appleton - Age 92, passed away at Brookdale Senior Living in Appleton on Friday, June 29, 2018. Elayne was born on April 6, 1926 in Appleton to the late Gustav and Henrietta (Kleuskens) Ristow. After attending high school at Appleton West, Elayne met and then married the love of her life, Lloyd "Lefty" Schabow on May 26, 1948 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Appleton. They spent the next 55 years together raising two boys and living the life before Lloyd passed away on July 16, 2003.
    Elayne was a lifelong bridge player-she absolutely loved to play cards. She was a great cook and dessert maker, loved to socialize (on the phone) and of course she loved to shop.
    Elayne was a lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church and was dedicated to her faith. She had a loving smile and a warm heart for every person she ever met throughout her life. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her even those who only knew her a short time at Brookdale.
    Elayne is survived by her son David Schabow, grandchildren Brianna and Conner and their mother Michele Schabow, sisters Grace Wege and Carole Ristow. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
    Elayne is preceded in death by her parents, her infant brothers Kenneth and Melvin, her infant sister Ione; her brothers Gordon Ristow and Arvin Ristow; sisters Bernice Muraski and Mary Jane Stumpf; sister-in-law Janet Ristow, brothers-in-law Donald J. Stumpf, Richard Wege and Leo Muraski. And most recently by her son Robert Schabow, who passed away on April 14, 2018.
    The funeral liturgy will be at 12:00 Noon on Friday, July 6, 2018 at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 312 South State Street, Appleton, with Fr. William Swichtenberg officiating. Friends will be received at St. Mary Catholic Church at 10:00 AM until the time of service. Entombment will be at Appleton Highland Memorial Park.
    Elayne's family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale, especially Rose and Rachel, and to Compassus Hospice for all their care and compassion and support and comfort during her transition-thank you Jina. And to all, your kindness will not be forgotten.

    Helen Margaret Putzer, age 90, died Tuesday morning, February 9, 2010, following a short illness. Helen was born November 9, 1919, to Aloys and Grace Hopfen-sperger in Little Chute. Helen was an excellent student, and after graduation from Kaukauna High School, She worked for the Hormel Meat Company in Austin, Minnesota. Following her marriage to Bill, her husband of 60 years, she concentrated on raising her three sons, and being a loving and devoted wife to Bill. Bill and Helen enjoyed 45 years of square dancing which became a defining activity in her life. Helen was also an accomplished pianist, and would frequently entertain her family with a variety of musical styles from her substantial repertoire. Helen's effervescent personality was contagious, and she strived to bring happiness to those around her. She will be missed.
    Helen is survived by her three fine sons: Bob, John Paul (Jamie), and Tom (Melissa); grandchildren: Christopher and Emily Putzer (Moris Zelaya), Hannah Scott, Sarah (Chris) Bateman, Sarah (Phil) Carpenter, Jenny (Milton) Cordova, Mark Semrad, Marietta (Zak) Crider, and Brianna Jackson.
    Private family services will be held on Saturday.

    Nancy Ann Bowers, (nee Kersten), Kaukauna, age 75, died peacefully on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Cherry Meadows with her family by her side. She was born September 9, 1938 in Kaukauna, WI, daughter of the late Albert and Josephine (Eppinger) Kersten. On May 15, 1959 Nancy married Clarence Bowers at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kaukauna. The couple lived in Kaukauna their entire married lives. Nancy worked at Parkside Care Center, retiring after 25 years of service. She enjoyed crafts, card making, 4 wheeling and spending time up north with family. Nancy was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kaukauna.
    She is survived by her husband of 55 years Clarence, Kaukauna; their children: Dean (Pam) Bowers, Dale (Sue) Bowers, Don (Lori) Bowers, and Lorie (Mike) Beyer; 6 grandchildren: Nicole (Jon) Blaskowski, Ashley Beyer, Charlie Bowers, Brian (Nichole) Mauthe, Kelly (Matt) Hoppe, and Ryan Blaser; 9 great-grandchildren: Maison, Harper and Van, Libby, Rosie, Audrey, and Celia, Lincoln and Evy; 3 brothers and sisters-in-law: Ray (Bonnie), Bob (Mary) and Mike (Carrie); 4 sisters and brothers-in-law: Charlotte (Junior) Bloy, Joan Jaeckels, Betty Kersten, and Marion Zwick. She is further survived by her husband's family: Arlene Blair, "Bud" (Eleanor) Bowers, Roseanne (Bob) Bastian, Ann Bowers, Margaret Bowers, and Mary Jane Bowers.
    She was preceded in death by a brother at birth, Albert and a brother-in-law, Jim Jaeckels.
    The Memorial Services for Nancy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer St., Kaukauna with Msgr. James Vanden Hogen officiating. Friends will be received at BOETTCHER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 2401 Fieldcrest Dr., Kaukauna on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and again directly at church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the mass. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in her name.
    The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the entire staff of Cherry Meadows Hospice for their compassionate care and concern.

    Today we lost our mom, wife, sister and best friend to brain cancer. Joanie was born Oct. 12, 1945, to the late Ernest and Frieda (Behnke) Kersten, in Appleton. Joanie married Robert M. Schumacher in May of 1969. She was a devoted Mom to son, EJ, and daughter, Carrie, Grammy to grandsons, Clint and Garrit. Joanie was a true friend and always ready to lend a helping hand. Her passions were quilting, playing cards and building things. Joanie created a Packers quilt for herself, a pattern which she repeated in 2007 to raise funds for the Heart of the Valley Relay for Life. Her special Packers quilt raised several hundred dollars. She took great pride in the fact that she built her own home.
    Joanie was employed by Zwicker's from her 18th birthday until they closed. After, she was employed by Jack's Pizza of Little Chute, until her diagnosis in 1995.
    She was proud and fiercely independent and will be greatly missed by her husband, Robert; her son, EJ (Jessica) Schumacher and grandsons, Clint and Garrit, Wrightstown; and her daughter, Carrie, at home. She is further survived by a sister, Audrey (Melvin) Schultz; brothers, Les (Marian) Kersten and Glenn (Dianne) Kersten; brothers-in-law, Ray Schumacher, Don (Willy) Schumacher and Joe (Cindy) Schumacher; sisters-in-law, Evelyn (Duane) Romenesko, Irene (Dan) Horn, Delores (Ron) Sedo and Margaret (Tim) Strutz.
    Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jeanine Schmaling; her brother, Gary; her parents-in-law, John and Agnes Schumacher; and a sister-in-law, Darhl Schumacher.
    Visitation will be held on Monday, July 6, 2009, from 4 to 8 p.m. at O'CONNELL FUNERAL HOME (201 E. Main St., Little Chute) with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. The Rev. Msgr. James Vanden Hogen will officiate. Committal Highland Memorial.

    Kaukauna - Linda L. "Jakes" Jaeckels, age 55, died Saturday, February 24, 2018 as the result of a car accident. She was born in Kaukauna on June 23, 1962 to James and Joan (Kersten) Jaeckels. She was a lifelong Kaukauna resident and graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1980. Linda was currently working at I-Pap. She was a devoted daughter, sister and aunt. Linda adored her niece, nephews, great niece and nephew and did her best to attend every one of their sporting events and school programs. She could always be counted on as the "organizer". She was always planning great ideas with family and friends events.
    Linda is survived by her mother, Joan Jaeckels of Kaukauna; siblings: Jeff of Kaukauna; Sue (Jon Klein) Monnot of Tigerton; Ken of Kaukauna; and Lisa (fiancée Brian Johnson) Krol of Kaukauna; nephews and niece: Joe and Kyle Derus and Michael and Hailey Krol; great nephew and niece: Lucas and Vanessa; and Godparents: Betty Kersten and Bob Kersten. She is further survived by aunts, uncles, and many special friends. Especially she will be missed by her dog Lucy.
    Linda was preceded in death by her father, James; and grandparents, including her Grandma Jo who she was very close to.
    Visitation will be held Friday, March 2, 2018 at HOLY CROSS PARISH (309 Desnoyer St. Kaukauna) beginning at 12:30 p.m. until time of Mass at 3:30 p.m. The Rev. Thomas Pomeroy will officiate and Deacon Bruce Corey will assist. Committal Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
