    Obituary:
The sudden death of Andrew Thiel, which occurred on Monday morning, saddened the community in which he was prominently known for many years. Mr. Thiel was in his usual health until the Thursday previous to his death when he was taken suddenly with an attack of pneumonia. His children were called to his bedside and everything possible was done for him but asthmatic trouble from which he suffered for the past ten years aggravated the attack and he passed away as above stated. To add to the sorrow of the household the wife and mother was stricken with pneumonia and took to her bed the day following her husband's attack and is still in serious condition.
Andrew Thiel, son of the late Claus Thiel and Johanna Berhow was born in Schleswig, Germany, April 4th, 1851. He came with his parents to America in 1872, locating in New Holstein. On Feb. 15, 1876, he was married to Wilhelmina Gerkins of Chilton town and they began housekeeping on a farm in North Charlestown. After two years residence there they moved onto what was known as the Peter Dix farm in Chilton town, now the Canning Company's farm. In 1880 they purchased the Thiel homestead, which is now occupied by their son, Andrew J. Thiel, on which they lived until some five years ago when they retired and purchased the residence of Mrs. Detlef Greve on Brooklyn Street. On Sunday, Feb. 18th they celebrated their 47th Wedding Anniversary at which nearly all members of their family were present and at which time both Mr. and Mrs. Thiel were well and in unusually happy frame of mind, little thinking that they were so soon to be separated by death.
Mr. Thiel was a man of some prominence in public affairs. He held the position of town assessor in Chilton town for 18 years and in the fall of 1904 was elected on the democratic ticket to the office of county treasurer for Calumet County, which position he held for six years. His administration of that important office could not be improved upon, nor could his well remembered courtesy to those who had business in the office. He was a member of the Calumet County Fire Insurance Company of New Holstein and for thirty-three years acted as their agent in this district. He also represented the Hail and Cyclone insurance companies of Hortonville and Juneau for a period of twenty-five years, which positions gave him a wide acquaintance and many friends. His leading characteristics were his strict integrity and his devotion to his family, who though grown to manhood and womanhood sadly feel the loss of his fatherly counsel and loving presence.
He is survived his widow, seven sons, Herman of Madsen, Henry of Chilton town, Arthur of Madsen, Attorney John A. of Mayville, William at home, Andrew J. on the homestead farm, Chilton town, Lorenzo at home and three daughters, Mrs. John Genske of Chilton Town, Mrs. Chas Schaefer of Plymouth and Miss Jean at home.

Andrew married Gerkins, Wilhelmina 15 Feb 1876. Wilhelmina was born Abt 1859; died Abt 1950; was buried , Hillside Cemetery, Chilton, Wisconsin, USA. [Group Sheet]
