Obituary:
Valerie E. Flanagan, age 89, formerly of Appleton, passed away at Wisconsin Veterans Home in King on Wednesday, March 9, 2011. She was born on April 5, 1921, in Bowler, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Carl and Effel (Kleman) Kading. On January 6, 1941, Valerie enlisted in the US Navy Waves and was stationed in Long Island, New York and Paris Island, South Carolina. On Janury 7, 1948, Valerie married Floyd Flanagan at St. Theresa Church in Appleton. Floyd preceded her in death on December 16, 1994. Valerie enjoyed playing golf in Florida as well as golfing with friends in Wisconsin.
It was Valerie's wish that no funeral service or visitation be held. Her cremated remains will be inurned with military rites at Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery in King in the spring.

She was born on April 5, 1921, in Bowler, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Carl and Effel (Kleman) Kading. On January 6, 1941, Valerie enlisted in the US Navy Waves and was stationed in Long Island, New York and Paris Island, South Carolina. Valerie is survived by two brothers Charles (Janet) Kading, Appleton and John (Margaret) Kading, Appleton; a sister, Rose Marie Piette, Appleton, three sisters-in-law, Phyllis (Richard) Huelsbeck, Delores Cook and Donna Flanagan; a brother-in-law, Donald (Dot) Flanagan; very special nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, god children, many friends.
Graveside services with full military rites will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Chapel in King.
