Mrs. Nick Hietpas (Christina Weyenberg), route 6, Appleton, who was kill ed when an automobile in which she was riding was struck by an interurb an streetcar at the French road crossing Wednesday afternoon. Funerals ser vice will be held at 9 o'clock Saturday morning from St. John's Catholic C hurch at Little Chute with the Rev.John Sprangers in charge. Interment wi ll be made at Little Chute Cemetery.Survivors are her widower, Nicholas Hietpas, four sons, John, Jacob, Be rt and Harold, two daughters, Marie and Mrs. Peter (Theodora) Vandenheuv el of Little Chute, her mother, Mrs. Mary (Jansen) Weyenberg of Grand Chut e, and three brothers, Jacob and Wilson of Stanley and Henry of Grand C hute. The condition of the three children, Harold, Bert and Marie, who we re in the car at the time of the accident, was greatly improved Friday mor ning, according to the attending physician. Marie suffered a fractured sku ll, Harold received injuries to his pelvis and Bert, the driver, was bruis ed and scratched. Steenie died 10 nov.1926 in Appleton.

Biography:
HENRY WEYENBERG, a progressive and enterprising young agriculturist of Grand Chute township, Outagamie county, whose farm of seventy acres is in a high state of cultivation, was born in what is now the township of Vandenbroek, Outagamie county, Wisconsin, in November, 1878, a son of John and Mary (Johnson) Weyenberg, natives of Holland. John Weyenberg was born in 1837, and came to the United States in boyhood. He came to Wisconsin in 1849, and as a young man was chef in one of the leading hotels in Menominee for several years, but later purchased a farm, which is now located in the town of Little Chute, and here he continued to reside during the remaining years of his life, his death occurring in 1906. Mrs. Weyenberg survives him and makes her residence in Little Chute. They had a family of four children: Steenie, wife of Nicholas Hietpas, who operates the land adjoining that of Mr. Weyenberg; Jacob and William, farmers of Chippewa county; and Henry. Henry Weyenberg attended the schools in the village of Little Chute and lived at home until he was twenty-six years old, although at various times he worked out on farms of the surrounding vicinity. He then rented a farm from his father, which he operated until buying his present property, and here he has continued to operate in a general way, also raising some stock. His farm is excellently equipped, and his operations have been conducted along scientific lines, the latest machinery being used.
On June 9, 1903, Mr. Weyenberg was united in marriage with Katie Joosten, who was born in Vandenbroek township, February 24, 1882, daughter of Martin and Mary (Verhagen) Joosten, the former born January 27, 1832, and the latter January 26, 1842, both in Holland. They came to Outagamie county during the early fifties and engaged in farming, and both are now living retired in the village of Little Chute. They had six children: Francis, deceased; Mary, the wife of Henru Hietpas, a farmer of Little Chute township; Simeon, a farmer of Wood county; Martin of Grand Chute township; Katie, wife of Mr. Weyenberg; and John, living on the old homestead. Three children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Weyenberg; Johnnie, born May 21, 1904; Marie, born March 17, 1908; and Martin, born September 30, 1909. Mr. and Mrs. Weyenberg are members of the Catholic Church, and he is connected with the Catholic Order of Foresters. He is a democrat in his political convictions.

Henry Weyenberg, 77, retired farmer, died about 8 o'clock Saturday mornin g, at the home of his son, Frank, Route 1, Kaukauna, after a 4 months illn es. He was born November 21, 1877 at Little Chute.Survivors includes his widow, Cornelia "Katie" (Joosten) Weyenberg, two da ughters; Mrs. Jake (Maria) Lamers of Kimberly and Mrs. Norman (Cecelia) Va nder Heiden of Appleton, four sons, John of Little Chute, Martin and Raymo nd both of Route 3, Appleton and Frank, Route 1, Kaukauna, two brothers; J ake of Appleton and William of Boyd, and 16 grandchildren.
Henry died 27 nov. 1954 in Kaukauna.

SS. PETER AND PAUL'S CHURCH.

Catholicity, in Huntington county, dates back to the year 1838, when about a half dozen families, chiefly Irish laborers, were employed in the construction of the canal. The Rev. Julian Benoit was the first offerer of the holy Sacrifice of the Mass, on August 15, 1843, in the residence of the Roche family. After Father Benoit, Rev. E. M. Faller and Rev. John Ryan attended Huntington, as a station, regularly every three months. During this time, Francis Lafontaine, chief of the Miami Indian tribe, and his father-in-law, Rushville, donated a piece of ground, on which a small log church was erected. The chief Lafontaine died April 13, 1847, and was buried near the log church.
The first resident priest at Huntington was Rev. Dr. A. Schippert, native of the kingdom of Wuertemberg, and a convert from lutheranism. He lived in a rented cottage on Cherry street. He procured and laid out a new cemetery at the edge of town. His pastorate continued from March 1857 till August 1858, when on account of ill health he retired to Innsbruck, Tyrol.
His immeditate successor was Rev. Frederick Fuchs, a native of Munster, Westphalia. He came to Huntinton from Cincinnati. He immediately built a frame addition to the log church, and opened a school. He also erected a priest's house of brick, remarking that at last the "fox had found shelter." The number of families at this time was one hundred German and thirty-nine Irish and French families. After five years of successful labor, considerations of health brought about his removal to Klaasville. Rev. Martin Kink was pastor, from August to December 1863. Bavaria was his native country, to which he returned and where he died. In December, 1863, Rev. Jacob Mayer was appointed pastor. It was he who built the present church, a Gothic structure of brick, 142x58 feet. The cost of the building amounted to about $30,000, of which he paid ll but $9,564. After five years of indefatigable labors, he was transferred to Logansport, in August 1868. The next pastor was Rev. George Steiner, born in New Ulm, Bavaria, April 13, 1836. He gave the School Sisters of Notre Dame charge of the school; he completed the church spire and gave the steeple a clock; he furnished oil paintings of the fourteen stations of the cross, and in 1873, built a large and substantial school house of brick, together with a Sisters' residence at a cost of $17,000. He suffered with hemorrhage of the lungs and spent the winter of 1876 to 1877 in Florida, and spring and summer of 1877 in Minnesota to recover his health. In the meantime, Rev. J. H. Hueser, D. D., had charge of the parish. In January, 1880, he resigned as pastor and with his faithful friend, Rev. Julius Becks, went to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he died peacefully, on June 1st, of the same year.
The pastorate of his successor, Rev. J. H. Hueser, D. D., extends from January 1880 to August 24, 1906. During this time he paid off old debts in the sum of $14,238, and besides made repairs and improvements, aggregating $43,000. The improvements made were a new pastoral residence for $10,000, a main altar $2,300, a chime of three bells $1,350, frescoing of the church and renovation the same $6,000, an organ $4,000, ten stained glass windows from the Tyrolese Art Glass Company $5,140, tuck pointing brick work of church, and veneering the foundation $1,300, furnaces for the three buildings $2,500, cemetery of twenty acres $4,200.
The societies of SS. Peter and Paul's Parish are: St. Joseph's Society, since 1857, with a membership of seventy-one; the Archconfraternity of Christian Mothers, with 160 members; St. Aloysius Society, for Young Men, with forty-two members; the Young Ladies' Sodality, with 100 members; the Holy Angels' Sodality with eighty-eight members.
The following were assistants at SS. Peter and Paul's: Rev. William Geers, from August 1877 to February 1879, now a priest of the diocese of Marquette; Rev. F. S. Kunkler, from May 1879 till January 1880, later a member of the Congregation of the Most Precious Blood; Rev. Adam Buchheit, from June 2, 1890 till July 19, 1895, attending also to Andrews as a station, for three years; Rev. Bruno soengen, during six months, Rev. Francis P. Faust, from December 1895 to October 1897; Rev. Ignatius F. Zircher, from June 1902 till April 1905; Rev. Joseph Jagemann succeeded Father Zircher, and from October 1905, Rev. Robert Meyer, C. PP. S. served until the arrival of Rev. William B. Hordeman who remained until the appointment of Father Hueser's successor.
Rev. W. C. Miller was appointed pastor at SS. Peter and Paul's Church, on October 6, 1906, and holds this position at the present time.
The parish has 205 families, numbering 1102 souls. Five School Sisters of Notre Dame conduct the school, teaching the eight grades. The number of pupils is 177. The debt on the church property amounts to $1,789.

Miller, Bernice C. "Dolly"Dolly, age 78, of Appleton, passed away unexpectedly at her home October 2 0, 2005. She was born June 6, 1927, in Stanley, WI, daughter of the late J acob and Anna (Barta) Weyenberg. She graduated from Appleton High Scho ol in 1945. She was employed by Appleton Wire Works for over 40 years. Dol ly married Lloyd (Jack) Miller in 1962 sharing 14 years together before h is death in 1976.She was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church and was a volunteer f or many years at St. Joseph Food Pantry. She always enjoyed getting togeth er with family and friends. In her younger years, Dolly was a gardene r, an avid bowler and enjoyed traveling and fishing with her husband.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.Preceding Dolly in death were eight brothers: Joseph, Edwin, Robert, Richa rd, John, Harold, Jerry and Rollin, three sisters: Sister Marian Frances W eyenberg, Eleanor Weyenberg and Lucy Montieth.Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 25, 200 5, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2331 E. Man Dies After Auto Accident John H. Weyenberg, Clintonville, Had Lived in Little Chute John H. Weyenberg, 58, route 3, Clintonville died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday from serious head injuries received in a two-car accident six miles north of Suring Monday noon. He died at an Oconto Hospital. His wife and a Pelican Lake couple died immediately as a result of the collision. Weyenberg was born May 21,1904 in the Town of Grand Chute. He is survived by three brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Monday at St. John Catholic Church, Little Chute with burial in the parish cemetery. He was a former resident of Little Chute.

He was a 50-year member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and Ka ukauna Moose Lodge No.953. Raymond is survived by his wife Rose Marie, a d aughter, Carol Feldkamp, Arpin, two sons, William and Daniel of Appleto n, a brother in-law James (Darlene) Verhagen, a sister Cele VanderHeyde n, Appleton, a sister in-law Francis Weyenberg, Appleton, three granchildr en, Christopher, Cassandra and Carrie Feldkamp, nieces and nephews. Lloyd married Jane Van Handel on Oct. 10, 191 at St. John Nepom ucene Catholic Church in Little Chute. He served in the 28th Infantry Divi sion of the United States Army during World War II. He was employed by Mar ston Mobile Oil Company, Appleton prior to serving as the Clerk-Treasur er for the Village of Little Chute. After his retirement, he joined Hietp as Realty until the time of his illness. Lloyd was a member of the Jacob C oppus American Legion Post #258, Little Chute and was past post commande r. He was also a member of the Golden K and was past president. Lloyd w as a Village Trustee for many years. He was a member of the St. John pari sh community serving funerals and was also active in many civic groups. Clarence N. "Jiggs" Vanden Heuvel, Little Chute, age 88, died peacefully Saturday May 10, 2014. He was born July 5, 1925 in Little Chute to the late Peter J. and Dora (Hietpas) Vanden Heuvel. Clarence observed his existence through a lens of enviable simplicity that made calling him dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, or friend an honor. His wife, Urs, and his four daughters were the loves of his life and anyone who was lucky enough to have spent time with him knew it. He married Urs Van Handel on October 21, 1950 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church and was in love with her every day since. Clarence was a master plumber starting with Elmer Coonen and retiring with August Winter & Sons. After his retirement, Clarence found ways to stay busy by helping out his two nephews Peter and Bobby Vanden Heuvel at Great Lakes Mechanical. His years of retirement brought stories of his and Urs' time at the "Holland Hilton," their trailer in Fort Myers, Florida. It's where he honed his skills on the golf course and where "teeing it up" in the fairway was not only fair play but recommended practice in many of his tales. He had an affinity for telling stories, many of them about his time served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Clarence, a member of the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258, was a tail gunner with the 461st Bomber Group and his time spent overseas provided a lifetime of engaging stories that held family members captive on many a night.
What really made Clarence special was the admiration that his grandchildren had for him. There wasn't a single recollection of him ever raising his voice in anger or a bad word spoken about another human being. He was truly a gentle soul and an example of how to love a woman. Though he will be deeply missed, he will live on in the stories that he told and through the euphemisms he used to tell them. On the day before he passed, he was able to have one last cocktail in bed with a smile on his face.
Clarence is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ursula; daughters: Jackie (Jim) Van Grinsven; Dori (Steve) Dercks; Ann (Scott) Vanden Heuvel, all of Little Chute; Carla (Scott) Schmalz, Menasha; grandchildren: Kurt Van Grinsven, Beth (Ryan) Driessen, Craig (Stacey) Van Grinsven; Nick, Michael (Katie), Charlie Dercks; Abby (Manny) Vasquez, Shea (fiancé Nick) Vanden Heuvel, Carly Vanden Heuvel; Sam, Lexi, Chelsea Schmalz; great grandchildren: Kayla, Jake, Lucas, Peter, Hannah, Claire, Grace, Reid, Alexis, Isaac, Anna, Dominic, Colton, Avery, Dane, Isaac, Isabel; siblings: Delores Machurick, Donna (Bob) Welsh, Ken Vanden Heuvel and Barbara (Mike) Kons; and sisters and brothers-in-law: Jane Vanden Heuvel, Noreen Vanden Heuvel, Yvonne Rusk, Laverne Vanden Heuvel, Rich (Grace) Van Handel and Lorna Van Handel. Paul G. "Petie" Vanden Heuvel, Little Chute, age 82, died Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at Theda Clark Medical Center after suffering a stroke. He was born in Little Chute on January 16, 1929, to the late Peter and Dora (Hietpas) Vanden Heuvel. Petie married Laverne Kamps on October 25, 1954, at St. Paul Parish in Combined Locks. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258. Petie owned and operated his own business until his retirement in 1991. Following his retirement, he was a courier for The Van Hoof Companies until he passed. This enabled him to continue the socializing he enjoyed so much. Petie enjoyed tinkering with things and made great beef jerky. He had a green thumb and loved tending to his plants. As most will attest, he was very proud of his grandchildren and loved watching them compete.
Petie is survived by his wife of 56 years, Laverne; children: Dick (Sheila), Richfield; Dan (Maureen), Combined Locks; Dean (Vicki), Chandler, AZ; Paula Nichols, Phoenix, AZ; and Jill Knodl, Germantown; grandchildren: Paul, Emily and Maddie Nichols, Sydney and Justin Knodl, Casey Fox, Adam, Ariana, Kyra, Sabrina, Katie (Ben Apodaca), Matt and Sam; brothers and sisters: Clarence (Urs) Vanden Heuvel, Dolores Machurick, Donna (Bob) Welch, Ken Vanden Heuvel and Barbara (Mike) Kons; and sisters-in-law Charlotte Helf, Jane and Noreen Vanden Heuvel and Yvonne Rusk. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Petie was preceded in death by his brothers Lloyd, Jerome and Gene Vanden Heuvel; father- and mother-in-law Edward and Hattie Kamps; Laverne's infant brother Richard; sister-in-law Anne Vanden Heuvel; and brother-in-law Mike Machurick.
Visitation will be held Saturday, March 5, 2011, at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (323 S. Pine St. Little Chute) beginning at 9 a.m. until time of Mass at 11 a.m. The Rev. Christine "Chris" Mayer, age 83, of Little Chute, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, January 14, 2014. Chris was born in Appleton to the late John and Mary (Verhagen) Hietpas on March 5, 1930. She graduated at St. John High School in Little Chute with the class of 1948. On October 18, 1958, Chris was united in marriage to Daniel Mayer at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Little Chute and the couple have enjoyed over 55 years together. Before her sons were born, she worked for the power company, then later for Danielski Architecture for many years.
Chris loved bowling for many years and later playing cards with her "card group" on Tuesday afternoons. She enjoyed traveling the country with her husband Dan - but most of all, spending time at their cottage on Lake Winneconne. Chris was a Charter Member at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Appleton.
She is survived by her husband Daniel, Little Chute; 3 sons: Mark (Brenda) Mayer, Appleton and their sons Matthew, Dylan, and Derrick; Rick (Jeanne) Mayer, CA and their children Kate and Danny; and John (Jane) Mayer, Appleton and their children Paige and Andrew; brother John "Orville" Hietpas, IL; and sister Judy (Pat) Kenney, Kaukauna. She is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister-in-law Toni Hietpas.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 am on Monday, January 20, 2014, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1810 N. McDonald St., Appleton, with Father Gerald Falk officiating. Friends may visit from 1 to 3 pm on Sunday at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel, and directly at church on Monday from 9 am until the time of service. Judith E. Kenney, age 80, of Kaukauna, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2014 with family at St. Paul Elder Services in Kaukauna.
Judy was born in Appleton, on June 30, 1934, to parents John and Mary (Verhagen) Hietpas. She graduated from St. John's High School in Little Chute in 1952, Mercy School of Nursing in Oshkosh in 1955 and received her Baccalaureate degree from Milton College. Judy was employed as a registered nurse at the Kaukauna Community Hospital where she also held several administrative positions.
Judy and Pat Kenney married on July 5, 1958 and resided in Kaukauna. She enjoyed sewing, traveling, camping, her many pets and spending time at her sister's cottage in Winneconne. Her greatest passion was for her children and family.
Judy is survived by her husband Pat Kenney, brother John Hieptas, brother-in-law Dan Mayer, four children, Colleen and Dave Schmidt of Appleton, Don and Lynn (Berglin) Kenney of Madison, Dan and Kathy (Kempen) Kenney of Darboy and Dave and Sally (Fassbender) Kenney of Kaukauna, ten grandchildren: Travis, Trevor, Trenton, and Turner Schmidt; Theresa and Steve Kenney; Laura and Alysa Kenney; Tyler and Mariah Kenney.
She is preceded in death by her parents John and Mary Hietpas, her sister Christine "Chris" Mayer and sister-in-law Toni Hietpas.
A funeral liturgy for Judy will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL, ST. MARY CHURCH, 119 W. Seventh Street, Kaukauna. Fr. Jerry Pastors will be officiating. Entombment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Appleton. Mary K. Murphy, Appleton, Age 49, died Thursday, August 31, 2000, at Appleton Medical Center following a short illness. Mary K. was born July 22, 1951, in Appleton to the late Bert and Margaret (Huiting) Hietpas, and has lived in the Fox River Valley area all of her life. On March 11, 1995, she married Michael Murphy in Appleton.
Mary K. worked as a bartender for many years at Jacks or Better, Chuters, and Dorns Supper Club.
She enjoyed golfing, the Packers, playing darts, cribbage, and especially raising her two German shepherds. Survivors include her husband Michael Murphy, Appleton; two step children: Sarah Murphy, Appleton; and Derek Murphy, of Kimberly. one granddaughter, Alexandria, of Appleton. A sister, Bev (Dan) Rupiper, of Appleton; two brothers, Nick (special friend Karen) Hietpas, Oshkosh; and Gene (Mary Ann) Hietpas, of Appleton. Her mother-in-law, Judy Boelter, Florida. Jan Vande Hey, age 71, of Kaukauna, ran into the arms of Jesus surrounded by her loving family on March 24, 2017, Vigil of Feast of the Annunciation. Jan began her faith journey with her parents, Roman and Marie Salm, and attended St. John Catholic Schools in Little Chute. Jan was a beautiful, loving wife to Ken Vande Hey for 50 years, raising their children in a faith-filled home. Together, they lived life for the Lord, fulfilling their mission to lead others to Jesus through many parish and diocesan ministries, among them Confirmation, youth ministry, Colorado leadership retreats, Cursillo, singing with "Du-Du's", and respect-life. Many have been blessed by her glowing smile, warm hugs, deep faith, and "I wish you Jesus!"

Roman Peter Salm, III, LCDR was called home to God's family Monday, July 27, 2009, age 35.
Beloved husband of Michelle Emily Pafford Salm for ten years. Loving daddy of Zipporah and Samuel. Blessed son of Roman Salm, Jr., and Virginia Ebben Salm. Brother of Paul (Emily) and Patrick (Jenny). Uncle of Nico, Bela and Finn. Grandson of Inez (the late Edward) Ebben.
Preceded in death by grandparents, Roman and Marie Salm. Cherished son-in-law of James and Kay Ludtke Pafford. Brother-in-law of Jennifer (Mark) Biefeld and Curtis (Patty) Pafford. Uncle of Jarrett, Melissa and Taylor. Roman will be dearly missed by all those he held in his heart. It was his honor to serve God, his family and the U. S. Navy.

Obituary:
Appleton - Katie L. Hammen, age 41, of Appleton, passed away at her home on Tuesday, February 13, 2018. She was born in Little Chute on April 12, 1976, daughter of Gary and Sue (Vanden Heuvel) Hammen. Katie graduated from LCHS in 1994. She was a four year letter winner for the Little Chute High School pom and dance team. She worked for many years as a Federal Public Housing Manager. Katie dedicated many hours supporting the Thomas Nelson campaign and the Democratic Party. She enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with her dog, Cooper. Katie loved being an aunt to all of her nieces and nephews, and her entire family will miss her tremendously.
Katie is survived by her parents, Gary and Sue Hammen; siblings: John (Hollie) Hammen, Abbey (Todd Uhlenbrauck) Hammen and Kristin (Pete) Van Zeeland; nieces and nephews: Hunter, Bianca, Titus, Judah, Moses and Hadassah Hammen, Walker and Jordyn Uhlenbrauck, Max, Marie and Megan Van Zeeland; former husband and friend, Greg St. Martin; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Katie was preceded in death by her grandparents: Fred and Gladys Hammen and Jerome and Noreen Vanden Heuvel; and an uncle, Dennis Hammen.

Memorial services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 23, 2018, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, 323 S. Pine Street, Little Chute, with Fr. Ron Belitz officiating.
