    Obituary:
    William Fred Platt, died Appl eton Wednesday April 1, 1998 after a long illness. He was born October 11 th, 1918 in Racine, Wisconsin. He was the oldest child of Neil E. and Mart ha J. (Herman) Platt. He grew up in Crown Point, Indiana and was graduat ed from Crown Point High School in 1935 and Purdue University in 1939 wi th a degree in chemical engineering. He was employed by Kimberly-Clark Co rp. for 41 and one-half years in various capacities and retired in Janua ry of 1981 as distribution manager for the U.S. Consumer Division. He ser ved in many civic and municipal functions which included school board f or the city of Menasha, Commissioner of Menasha Electric and utilities, pa st president of Kiwanis Club, PTA, officer and director of the Neenah- Men asha chapter of the American Red Cross, Neenah-Menasha United Way Allocati ons and Nominating committee, East district chairman of the valley Counc il of Boy Scouts of America, a member and past president of the Neenah Clu b, member of the BPOE. 676, Kimberly post of the American Legion, memb er of the Theda Clark Hospital auxiliary, member of the St. Paul's Luther an Church and active in the choir, Church Council and other committees. B ill served on the board of directors of the Badger Hawkeyes Blood Servi ce region of Madison, and served on the board of directors of Fox valley L utheran homes Inc., Appleton. He was a life member of Kimberly-Clark Corp ., a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Navy on L S T 947 in t he Pacific as lieutenant JG. USNR. He was a resident of Menasha since 19 46. He enjoyed fishing, golf, music and piano, and was an avid reader. B ill was preceded in death by his wife, the former Lucille Green, Appleto n, whom he married on September 20th, 1941; his parents and a sister, Rosa lie. He is survived by his two daughters; Susan and Robert Peterson, Gle ndale, and their children Mark (Wendy) Peterson and Kristin Peterson; Nan cy Platt, Appleton and her daughter Heidi Platt Suke, a brother, Richard ( Billy) Platt, in Dayton Ohio, a sister Dorothy (Bob) Green, Hedgesville We st Virginia, two brothers in law, Donald and Blanche Green and Robert Gree n, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. Funeral services will be he ld Monday April 6, 1998 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Neen ah and with the Rev. James Siem, Alan Crab, and James Plymire officiatin g. Entombment will be in the Star of Hope mausoleum, Appleton. The fami ly expresses much gratitude and thanks to caregivers Jan Markel, Mary Be th Hickey, and Carolyn Johnson as well as the Fox Valley VNA hospice staff .
