- Karene A. Lauer, age 78, Menasha, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2013, with her family by her side. Karene was born on July 25, 1935, in Appleton daughter of the late Cornelius and Esther (Allender) Defferding.
Karene loved nature, bird watching and being at her cabin on the Wolf River in Shiocton. She will be missed by her family and friends because of her love and compassion of others.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna (Bob) Stammer, Hortonville; son Gary (Barb) Obermeier, Ventura, CA; stepchildren, Sue (Sid) Stocker, Waupaca; Karen Palm, Appleton; and Leroy Jr. (Mary) Lauer, Dale; her siblings: Joyel (Owen) Boyce, Menasha; Janis Defferding, Shiocton and Ivan (Jacklyn) Defferding, Holland; brothers in-law and sisters in-law, Joseph Obermeier, Dennis (Pat) Obermeier and Sue (Dan) Van Sistine; two grandchildren Kylie Obermeier and Calvin (Erin) Stammer; great-grandchild, Calvin Joseph Stammer and also step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Karene is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Karene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leroy Lauer Sr., mother in-law, Margaret Obermeier; son Brian Obermeier, brothers, Aaron Defferding and Keith Defferding, stepson, Tom Lauer and special friend James Barnes.
Funeral services for Karene will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Borchardt and Moder Funeral Home, Shiocton with Rev. Greg Watling officiating. Burial will be in the Shiocton Bovina Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Shiocton funeral home on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. and also on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
