Velda Ann Funk, 90, Formerly of Sherwood, passed into God's hands on Sunday, February 22, 2009, at Chilton Care Center in Chilton. She was born on June 8, 1918, in the Township of Lomira, WI, daughter of the late John and Julia (Simon) Jagdfeld. She had resided in High Cliff and Sherwood most of her entire life until moving to Chilton Care Center in 2005. As a young girl, she attended beauty school in Fond du Lac, which allowed her to give many haircuts and perms in her home in Sherwood. Velda had been united in marriage to Gordon Funk on October 28, 1943; they shared 55 years of marriage until Gordon's death in 1999. For over 20 years, Velda served as one of the cooks at Sacred Heart School in Sherwood. She also loved her Friday night getaways with Gordon, which was going to Appleton for dinner and to shop. Her favorite pastimes were crocheting, crossword puzzles, cooking, playing cards with family and friends, and seeing those wonderful grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Velda was also a member of Sacred Heart Church. She was a charter member of the Legion Auxiliary.
Velda will be missed by her loving children: Gene (Chris), Stockbridge, Duane (Barb), Texas, and Gary (Bonnie), Sherwood; two grandchildren: Mike (Lisa) and Jon (Carrie); and three great-grandchildren: Phoenix, Conner, and Madison. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Velda was also preceded in death by a grandson, Steven; three brothers and two sisters-in-law: Earl (Audrey), Al (Leona), and Rolland.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2009, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, N369 Military Road, Sherwood, with Fr. Philip Dinh-Van-Thiep officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the hour service at the church. Interment will take place in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Sherwood. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
The family wishes to give special thanks to all the staff at Chilton Care Center for all the care, love, and support of Velda for the past four years.
