Gertrude Bast is my 3 great grandmother on my Father's side. I hope this is the same Gertrude. I knew she was born in Ohio on November 7, 1845 and died 5 June 1908 in Brown County, Wisconsin. Her parents were Peter and Catherine Bast. Do you know where they came from in Ohio? My father would tell a story that we were Pennslyvania Dutch- could this be the family? I was surprised to find that the family had moved on to Harrison, Calumet, Wisconsin. I was wondering where they disappeared too. Hope to hear from you!!! He was born in May 1846 in Petit-Rosaire, Brabant Wallon Province, Belgium. He was a farmer in Green Bay Township, Brown County Wisconsin. They had 4 children, Catherine, Melanie, Mary, Mathilda. He came to the United States in 1855. Mary Liberton married Valentine Heim (my great grandparents). I hope that helps. I was excited to find that the Bast family had moved to Calumet county. I had no idea where they had moved too. They had seemed to vanish. I have now found them in the 1870 and 1880 census. Thank you for checking on this for me.
