  Nicholas Gillen, aged 83 years passed quietly away at the home of his son, George Gillen on Lawe street Thursday evening at 8:45 o'clock following a severe illness of three weeks duration. Infirmities of old age together with a complication of diseases is ascribed for his death.Deceased was born in Freizen, Germany and at the age of 16 years came alone to this country settling in the state of New York. He was united in marriage in Pennsylvania to Miss Mary Leo who succumbed twelve years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Gillen resided in the east for sometime after which they moved to Wisconsin and settled at Manitowoc. Later he moved to Brown County and then to Pound, Wis., having been in the saw mill practically all his life. Four years ago he retired from active work and came to this cit where he has since made his home with his son.Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Gillen, three of whom are dead. The survivors are: George and John Gillen of this city Mrs. Mary Nachtwey, Hillard, Wash., Jacob Gillen, of Wabeno. [One child is left out. I think it is Joseph, who would have been living in Wabeno, while Jacob would instead have been living in Denver.] He is also survived by twenty-seven grand children.The funeral was held Monday morning at nine o'clock from Holy Cross church, Msgr. P. J. Lochman, conducting the services. Interment was made in Holy Cross cemetery. The following grandsons acted as pallbearers: William, Leo, Anton and Roman Gillen of this city Henry Gillen of Wabeno and Louis Gillen of Pound, Wis.Among those who attended the funeral from outside the city were Jacob Gillen, Denver, Col., Mrs. Mary Nachtwey, Hillard, Wash., Jake Jacobs, Menominee, Mich.; Mrs. Anton Perling, Manitowoc; Mrs. John Ritz, Mrs. Gulker, Green Bay; Joseph Gillen and family, Wabeno; Mrs. John Verbeten, Racine; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Vandenberg and Mrs. Arnold Gloudeman of Little Chute.
