Janssen, James Leo James Leo Janssen passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006, whi le vacationing in Sarasota, Fla. He was born May 18, 1931, in De Pere, Wis ., the son of Leo and Marie (Niessing) Janssen. He attended St. Norbert Hi gh School and graduated from De Pere High School in 1949. Jim was a talent ed athlete, lettering in three sports during his high school career. He gr aduated with a degree in business from St. Norbert College in 1956 after s erving his country in the United States Marine Corps. He worked for Daan en & Janssen construction company for several years before returning to sc hool for a degree in English and secondary education. He later earned h is master's degree in English from Northern Michigan University. He then t aught high school English at Freedom High School from 1960 to 1962. From 1 962 to 1989, he taught at De Pere High School, retiring as the head of t he English department. During many of those years he was also the junior v arsity football coach. On Aug. 17, 1957, he married Mary Joan McNamara of Rhinelander, Wis. Th ey met while attending St. Norbert College. He is survived by his wife, Ma ry; his daughter, Julia Vidani, De Pere, her husband, PJ, and their son s, Peter and Jack; son, Michael, Naperville, Ill. and his wife, Susan a nd their children, Rachel, Adam and Claire; son Tom, De Pere; and son, Jef f, Ocoee, Fla. and his wife, Evaleen and their son, Zachary. He is furth er survived by his brother, Bill and his wife, Muriel, De Pere, and the ir sons Scott and Chris. He is also survived by his wife's brother, Sherid an (Mac) McNamara and his wife, Kathleen, Scottsville, Va.; and his sister -in-law, Lucille McNamara, Wilmington, N.C. He was pre-deceased by his parents and a brother-in-law, Murray McNamar Jim was a sincere and humble man. He loved his career in teaching and h is friendships with his fellow teachers and former students. He enjoyed ma ny wonderful fishing trips and golf games with his friends. His sons wi ll never forget their fishing vacation in Canada. He was a loyal Packers f an. He spent many good times at his cottage in Rhinelander, teaching the k ids and grandkids how to water-ski and fish. He had a wonderfully fun sen se of humor. He was a role model for his children and he deeply loved h is best friend, our mother. Family and friends may call Friday, Feb. 10, 2006, (TODAY) from 5 p. m. to 8 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Community of De Pere, Pope John XXIII Ci rcle, off Sportsman Drive, town of Ledgeview, where there will be a Pari sh Prayer Service at 7:45 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday at chu rch from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of Mass. Mass of Christian Burial wi ll be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at church, with the Rev. John H. H arper officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, De Pere. Cott er Funeral Home, De Pere, is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name. Memo rials and condolences may be directed to the Janssen family at P.O.
