  Other Info or Events	Fred & Lena were very hard workers and made every nickel they could. They never knew what Sunday was- just work and work [Editors Note: Sunday was always considered a day of rest]. He bought big machinery and hired out to other farmers. He had amassed a fortune of 7 farms and 17 teams of horses when he and Albert left for Cuba. Fred believed in fortune tellers and one told him the farther South he would go, the wealthier he would get. Albert went along because he knew how to read and write.They got into a big storm and turned around to go back to Galveston. When they got back, Lena and the two youngest---Emma and Freddie were there so they stayed there. They tried to farm as they had in Wisconsin, but it never amounted to much. Gradually he used up all the money he had and his children had to pay for his funeral. Ida, Tina and Willie were married. John, Hannah, Marie, Herman and Lena were left here and all married within a year. Hannah was only 16 when she married. The 1900 census gives Fred's birthday as April 1856 and Caroline's as November 1858. They had 13 children then with 10 living.
