  Leona Krueger, 100, De Pere, died early Friday morning, Dec. 11, 2009. The daughter of the late John and Annie (Schampers) Smits was born Nov. 2, 1909. She was a lifelong resident of De Pere. On Nov. 26, 1933, she married Irvin Krueger at St. Boniface Church, De Pere, WI. He preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 1959. Leona worked for St. Norbert College in the Sensenbrenner Memorial Union for 35 years, retiring in May 1993. She enjoyed playing cards with her many friends and also bingo. Survivors include two sons Gerald and Robert (Julie), one daughter, Jean (Chuck) Ritz, two grandchildren Curt (Kathy) Ritz and Michelle (jeremy) Harnish, and six great-grandchildren, Abigail, Joshua, Jason, Charles, Miles, Jeremyah. Leona is further survived by brother-in-law Elton Krueger and by many nieces and nephews. Leona was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three sisters, Ceil (Elmer) McVey, Lillian (Harvey) Leloo, Regina (Tony) Minten, and two brothers Norbert (Cecile) Smits, Marvin (Gertrude) Smits. Friends may call at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family, corner of Lourdes Ave. and Suburban Drive in De Pere after 9 a.m. Monday until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. with her nephew Fr. Ken Smits, O.F.M. CAP, officiating and Fr. Tim Shillcox O.Praem, concelebrating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
