  William W. Williamson, 56, and Harriet Jansen, 59, emigrated to the Freedom area with their children, Cornelia, 25, Johanna, 23, Berdina, 21, Theodre, 17, William, 15 and a servant, Hendrika Frembs 27. They embarked from Havre, France, traveling in steerage on the George F. Patten and entered the U.S. through Castle Garden, New York City, on June 11, 1856…. Castle Garden was an old converted fort used for processing immigrants from Aug.1, 1855 to April 18, 1890. A temporary facility, the Barge Office & Annex was used until Ellis Island opened on Jan.1, 1892. Immigrants leaving New York and journeying to Wisconsin would travel by train or boat to Albany, the Erie Canal to Buffalo, a lake steamer to Green Bay, then a flat boat to Kaukauna and an ox cart to Little Chute and Appleton - the trip from Europe to Wisconsin took about eighty days. By 1851, the Erie Canal was bypassed by rail and by 1855 the railroad was completed to Milwaukee and by 1862 to Appleton."   Other Info or Events	Had a possible relative as Rt. Rev. Williamson Rt. Rev. Joannes "John" Willemsen, was born in 1797 and was ordained a Catholic priest in 1820. In 1823 he went to Surinam as chaplain and was a missionary to the slaves there. He became ill shortly after arriving. He continued to attend to the needs of the people - but did not regain his health - and in 1824 was advised to return to Holland. He was a pastor of many parishes in Holland and in 1848 he became the first Archbishop of Gelderland and received the titles, Knight of Queen Isabella of Spain and Private Counsel of Pope Pius IX. He died in Arnhem in 1871 at the age of 74.
