Marvin James Derga, age 87, passed away peacefully in his home Saturday, November 19, 2016. He was born in Appleton on August 26, 1929, to Andrew and Anna (Lewandowski) Derga. He married Lois (Klapper) on August 16, 1961, and they enjoyed 55 happy years together. In those years, they raised four daughters. Marvin was employed by Wisconsin Wire Works (Asten Forming Fabrics) for 42 years as a wire weaver/machine operator, and was also a member of the Teamsters and a union steward. In addition to this, he proudly served his country as an Infantryman in the Army National Guard between the years of 1947-1956. He achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class. Marv will be remembered for his quick wit, unique sense of humor, and candid personality. He was a kid at heart. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the cottage in Pickerel. Some of Marv's favorite pastimes included bowling, car shows and auctions, snowmobiling, hunting trips with the guys, occasional outings to casinos, and going out to eat, particularly monthly breakfasts with old friends. He was an avid Packer fan, and especially proud that he had attended the Ice Bowl. He gave much to charity, especially the Salvation Army. He will be forever missed by his loving wife, Lois; their four daughters: Pamela (Rogelio) Ramirez, Jacqueline Foth, Jamie Derga, and Becky Derga; along with his sister Janet (Thomas) Wisneski. In addition, he will always be remembered by his 11 grandchildren: Nicole, Ericka (Michael), Tyler, Joshua (Becky), Marissa, Austin, Hayleigh, Jessey, Caleb, Jonah, and Lindsey along with great-granddaughters, Madelyn and Eleanor. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Gloria (Roman) Griesbach, and a son-in-law Dennis Foth. Funeral service for Marvin will be 12:00 PM on Wednesday November 23, at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, with Rev. Kurt Hoffman officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, beginning at 10:00 AM until the hour of service. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Marvin's family would like to extend a special thank you to Southern Care Hospice for helping to grant Dad's wish to be at home with family when he ended his journey. Marvin was a caring and loving husband. He was a patient, fun loving, and generous father and grandfather. He will be missed by many.
