See Image Marvin J. De Bruin, 1148 Taft Street, Little Chute Age 73, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001 in West Bend, Wisconsin, after beati ng the odds from his recent illness. He was born February 8, 1928, in Comb ined Locks, son of the late Joseph and Leona (Meulemans) De Bruin. Marv at tended St. Mary's Grade School for eight years, Kaukauna High School for f our years and also attended Lawrence Conservatory of Music. He was a U. S. Army Veteran, having served in the Korean War as a Sergeant. Marv w as a member of St. John Catholic Church, Little Chute, where he serv ed on the School Board and the Parish Council for many years. He was emplo yed at Thimany Pulp and Paper for 44 years in the technical department a nd held various supervisory positions. Following his retirement, he w as a RESPIT volunteer for 10 years. He enjoyed gardening and sharing it wi th many others. He also enjoyed music and taking fishing trips to Canad a. Marv and his wife, Jean, loved music and performed in numerous singi ng events in the area. Marv loved baking cookies for holidays, which his c hildren and grandchildren really enjoyed, not to mention the dollar bil ls his grandchildren received for every little occasion. His grandchildr en and great-grandchildren were the "apples of his eye." Marv and Jean rec ently celebrated 50 years of marriage on December 30, 2000. Besides bei ng involved in his church, Marv was also a member of the Knights of Columb us Kaukauna Council 1033 and the Thilmany Quarter Century Club. Survivo rs include his wife of 50 years, Jean, Little Chute, their 10 children: K en (Paula), Combined Locks; Mary De Bruin (special friend, Dave Bruehl) Ap pleton, Sue (Tom) Verkuilen, Winchester; Karen (Jeff) Lambie, West Bend; G reg (Jeannie), Darboy; Bob (Annette), Rochester, New York; Colleen (Mik e) Peterson, Appleton; Joe (special friend, Lorie Hassell), Appleton; Ga ry (Kari), Menasha; Dan De Bruin, Little Chute; 25 grandchildren, two grea t-grandchildren, a brother and sister-in-law, Floyd (Karen) Debruin, New L ondon; two sisters and three brothers-in-law, Bernice (Benny) Hahn, Neena h; Eileen (Jim) Johnson, Kaukauna and George Young, numerous nieces and ne phews and a very special grand niece, Tiffany, who always called uncle Ma rv her "Pipe Man." Marv is further survived by a very special friend, Darl ene Young of Colorado. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Eric De Bru in, a brother and sister-in-law, Francis "Fritz" (Carol) De Bruin and a si ster and brother-in-law, Carol (Doug) Vandenberg. Funeral Services wi ll be held at 5:30 pm Friday at St. John Catholic Church, Little Chute, wi th Msgr. James Vanden Hogen officiating and Deacon Orville De Bruin assist ing. Complete military rites will immediately follow services at church, c onducted by the Jacob Coppus Post 258 of the American Legion, Little Chut e. Entombment in the Star of Hope Mausoleum, Appleton. Friends may ca ll at the Boettcher Family Funeral, 2401 Fieldcrest Drive, Kaukauna fr om 2 to 5 p.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been establ ished in his name.
