  Ann Douglas, 90, Appleton, passed away Saturday, August 14, 2010, at Cherry Meadows. She was born April 29, 1920, in Germany, daughter of the late Fredrick and Augusta (Bartel) Sonnenberg. She came to America at the age of four. She married Harold Calmes on May 16, 1941, sharing 31 years together before his death Sept. 27, 1972. She married Frederick Douglas on Dec. 26, 1977, sharing 13 years together before his death Jan. 4, 1991. Ann was employed by Zwicker Knitting Mills for 10 years and H.C. Prange for 16 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church; Appleton Ladies Elks #337; life member of VFW Auxiliary; Appleton Women's Club; past president of Evening Lionettes; a Past Senior Counselor for United Commercial Travelers; a volunteer for 25 years for St. Vincent de Paul and organized activities at the Courtyard, where she resided for several years. Her joys in life were her family, casino trips, doing the football pool and reading. Ann is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Mark and Jane Calmes, Forsyth, IL; two daughters and sons-in-law: Sharon and James Shaw, Hortonville; Lynn and Kenneth Kohl, Merrill; a sister: Molly Gauerke, De Pere; eleven grandchildren: Scott (Connie) Shaw, Randy (Danielle) Shaw, Michael (Jennifer) Shaw, Terry Shaw, Tracy (Matt) Pellerin, Michelle (William) Henry, Kristy Kohl (Justin Myhre), Christopher Calmes, Andrew (Lisa) Calmes, Kimberly (Rex) Davis and Nikki Calmes; fourteen great-grandchildren: Cassidy Shaw, Caleigh Shaw, Ashlee Shaw, Shaylee Shaw, Cody Shaw, Kaelyn Shaw, Stephen Shaw, Brittani Shaw, Brady Shaw, Taylor Krohn, Dylan Henry, Alexsis Henry, Emma Myhre, Hattie Myhre; three step-great-grandchildren: Jordan James, Katelyn Reynolds and Cameron Henry; a step-great-great-grandchild: Jaida James. She was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am, Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 213 E. Wisconsin Ave., with Rev. Bill Hoffman officiating. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be directed or the ALS Foundation - in honor of Jane Calmes, St. Vincent de Paul or the Salvation Army.
