  Family History Researcher	Hi Jay, Just wanted to get back with you and let you know I got copies of the 2 obits for Catherine Chopin that you told me about. If you want copies, I can fax them to you - just let me know your fax #. Unfortunately, the obits didn't give me any information that would confirm the elder Catherine's maiden name was Sheehy and that she was my great-grandmother's sister. The elder Catherine (the mother) was born about 1845 and died in Appleton, WI at the home of her son William on Nov 30, 1925. There was no information, however, about her birthplace, her parents' names or anything. The only other information was that her husband had preceded her in death by 9 years. The younger Catherine (the daughter) was born Feb 6, 1874 in Duck Creek and died in Kaukauna Jun 24, 1911 of peretonitis after her appendix ruptured. Will let you know if/when I ever get solid information that Catherine is in fact my great-grandmother's sister. The Canadian marriage record has her marrying a Jonathan Chopin whose age and birthplace are right for the John Chopin she appears with in several censuses. There is also evidence that several Sheehys immigrated to the US from Canada, but that's all I've got to go on right now - that and a hunch that she is the one I am looking for. Take care, and thanks again for your help.Karen Hi Jay, Just wanted you to know that I followed up on the marriage certificate for Joseph Chopin and Anna VanAbel as you suggested after I got nowhere with either the obituary for Catherine Chopin or her death certificate. Having looked the marriage certificate over, I am reasonably convinced that she is indeed the sister of my great-grandmother Johannah Sheehy. Catherine's maiden name was given as "Catharine Sheheh" or possibly "Catharine Shehen." The handwriting is not too good, so I can't be absolutely sure, but the maiden name clearly starts out with "Shehe." However, the last letter is a bit of a challenge. Thanks for the tip! You never know what clue it may hold for myself or another researcher. My fax is my phone line, 858-571-8748, if you have a manual start from your end when you get a tone, great, sometimes mine doesn't catch it before the answering machine does. But, I think you have several good leads to find her maiden name (eventually) First, Outagamie County Records office in Appleton, would have her 1925 death certificate. (say hello to my cousin Sandy Romenesko who works in the office there) Next follow up with the Archives at the Diocese of Green Bay. (say Hello to John and Ms. Kris Matthies) The church burial records MIGHT list her maiden name, but more likely you would find it on the childrens' baptismal and/or marriage records. (Joseph Chopin and Annie VanAbel married 6/02/1903 at Holy Cross in Kaukauna see report for more info in notes...and also if your relative is her sister, she is likely to have been a baptismal godparent for at least one of Catherines children (even if not present) so you should look at all the records you can find.
