  Joseph Koch passed away at 3:30 o'clock Thursday morning after suffering about six weeks from blood poison at his home on Doty street. His hand was infected supposedly by a small thorn near the base of the thumb, and almost before he knew what the trouble was the hand and arm were swollen to twice their usual size as far as his elbow. The suddeness of the attack showed its violence and he was advised to have the member amputated to save his life but he would not listen to the proposition saying "that he was too old to go around with only one hand." Mr. Koch's age was 71. He came from Germany 45 years ago to Oshkosh and 35 years ago he settled in Kaukauna where with his family he has resided ever since. He was an employee of the North Shore and the Chicago & Northwestern railway for many years at the round house of the Ashland division until about five years ago, his failing health compelled him to give up active work. His wife died here eleven years ago. Surviving are his children, Mrs. Anna Alwardt, Frank, John, Otto and Paul Koch. Mr. Koch was a member of the Catholic Knights with whom he was insured for $1,000; also of St. Joseph's society at Oshkosh from which organization his family will receive about $150. The funeral will be held Satruday morning at nine o'clock from Holy Cross church, Rev. Father Julius Rohde officiating and interment will be by the side of his wife in Holy Cross cemetery. Obituary-Kaukauna Sun March 7, 1907 Joseph Koch Died This Morning Joseph Koch,for the past thirty years a resident of this city, died this morning at 3:30 o'clock from blood poisoning--having pricked the palm of his right hand five weeks ago. Mr. Koch was born at Kallen, Germany, on the 23rd of May 1836. At the age of 23 he came to this country and located at Oshkosh, where he resided until he moved to Kaukauna. The funeral will be held from Holy Cross church, Saturday morning at nine o'clock. He is survived by five children: John, Otto, Paul and Frank Koch and Mrs Chas. Alwardt.
