Evelyn Thiel, 91, Appleton, passed away peacefully at an area care center on Thursday, March 10, 2011. Evelyn was born in Black Creek, on September 21, 1919, daughter of the late John and Johanna (Huven) Fuhrmann. On July 18, 1944, she married Henry E. Thiel. Henry preceded her in death in 1975. For many years, Evelyn was employed at Zwicker's Knitting Mill in Appleton, and during World War II, was a member of Washington's Fire Brigade. She enjoyed fishing, caring for children and had been actively involved in the work of the L.D.S. Church for many years. She is survived by seven children, William Thiel, Harold (Barbara) Thiel, Michael (Gail) Thiel, Anne (Kelly) Kunz, Richard (Marti) Thiel, Kurt (Maggie) Thiel and Mark "Bucky" (Laura) Thiel; a daughter-in-law, Rosemary Thiel; 41 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Robert, in 1991; a grandson, Andrew, in 2010; brothers, Herbert, Willard and John; and a sister, Lucille. The funeral service for Evelyn will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at the CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER DAY SAINTS, 425 W. Park Ridge Avenue in Appleton, with Bishop Glen Ogden presiding. Interment and the dedication of the grave will be at Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and again at the church on Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Memorial contributions will be used to assist the victims of the Japan earthquake.Wichmann Funeral Home 537 N.
