  Family History Researcher	From Penelope Miller Genealogy; Education value: Lucina finished elementa ry school as was the custom for many girls at that time (during the Depres sion). Her public school education was supplemented by religious educati on classes at the Catholic Church, a centerpiece of family activities. S he worked at home and at part-time jobs within walking distance of her ho me in Combined Locks, WI. At age 20, she married a farmer, helped run t he family farm for 44 years, and raised a family of eight children. Althou gh she regretted the lack of a more formal education, she participat ed in continuing education programs and encouraged her children to atte nd college. With strong family values and a keen sense of community, she w as mostly self-taught. Yet, she encouraged her eight children to gain as m uch education as they could to better themselves and the lives of their fa milies.
