  Gertrude I. "Gertie" Knaack, age 93, peacefully went to meet her Savior on Friday, February 17, 2012 at Parkside Care Center. She was born on May 19, 1918 and raised in Pella, WI; daughter of the late Emil and Mathilda (Bailke) Konkel. Gertie married Melvin Knaack on April 22, 1939. He preceded her in death in October of 1988. She worked outside of her home for many years, retiring in 1980. Gertie enjoyed playing cards and bingo, doing crossword puzzles and visiting with friends and family. She was known for her quick wit and sense of humor to the end. She will be deeply missed by her children, Charlotte (Gerald) Bohl, Marva (Ken) Uhlenbrauck, Jordan Knaack, John Knaack and Brenda (William) Roberts; grandchildren, Jeff (Cheryl) Bohl, Lori (Mark) Pritzl, Kurt Uhlenbrauck, Koreen Uhlenbrauck, Kandis (David) Oldroyd, Kent (Vanessa) Uhlenbrauck, Craig (Pam) Knaack, Joel (Chris) Knaack, Brandon (Janet) Knaack, Nathan Knaack, Jodi (Lupe) Mendez, John Knaack, Bridgette (Shean) Haessly, Brittany (Ramando) Hughson and Belinda Roberts; daughter in law, Sandra (Cliff) Buelow and her family, Tracy (Kevin) Rogowski, Bryan Knaack, Bradley (Deanna) Knaack and Paul and Jonathon Ehlke; Sandra was formerly married to Gertie's son, Waldo Knaack who preceded her in death. She is also survived by many great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin; son, Waldo; great grandson, Dylan Mendez; brothers, Richard Konkel, Harry Konkel and Emil Butch Konkel and by her sisters, Regina Arndt, Laura Pingel- Arndt and Irene Breitrick. Funeral service for Gertie will be held on Monday, February 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at BETHANY EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 530 W. Parkway Blvd, Appleton with the Rev. Mark Henke officiating. Family and friends may visit at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, memorials are established for Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church and Fox Valley Lutheran High School. Gerties family would like to say a special thanks to the staffs of Parkside Care Center and Heartland Hospice for their compassionate care.
