Helen (Brueggeman) Hansen was born in Cashton (St. Marys Ridge), to George and Mary (Leis) Brueggeman. She is survived by her husband, Sylvester; two sons, Sean and his wife, April (Dennen) and Jeff and his wife, Julie (Saylor); two granddaughters, Saylor and Hannah; three grandsons, Ashden, Alex and Seth; seven sisters, Alice Schaitel, Marcy Larson, Shirley Brockman, Donna Laufenberg, Arleen Van Voorhees, Christine Deichler and Brenda Rediske; and five brothers, Glen, Owen, Earl, Alvin and Loren. Helen was a kind and loving person who loved to be with people and enjoyed her children and grandchildren greatly before dementia took its toll. Her love of playing music started at an early age, learning to play the accordion and then dedicating her talents in playing the guitar and singing harmonies in the music ministry for over 28 years at Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary and Pax Christi Churches. Helen and her husband of over 42 years enjoyed playing bluegrass music together for several years with friends. Helen spent several years as an insurance underwriter until she joined Lexington Community College (Lexington, Ky.) and worked there until she was diagnosed with dementia. Father Robert H. Neiberding and Father Richard D. Edelen will concelebrate the services to be held Saturday, Jan 8, at Pax Christi Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until Mass at 11 a.m. A special thanks goes to Alzheimer's Best Friends Day Center, Christian Care Communities Adult Day Center and Hospice of the Bluegrass and the family requests a donation to these fine organizations in lieu of flowers. www.milwardfuneral.com.
