  Lester Kirking, 86, of Cashton died peacefully at his home surrounded in love by his family, on Nov. 30, 2006. Lester was born Oct. 21, 1920, to Selmer and Tilley (Larson) Kirking . He was later lovingly raised by Luella (Williams) Kirking. On June 25, 1942, Lester married Ramala (Schwellenbach). They had eight children, Francis, Donavon, Karen (Jerry Green) from Black River Falls, Wis., Donna (Gary Peterson) of Sparta, Wis., Jim (Debbie Rezin) of Mundelein, Ill., Lester "Sonny" (Jeannie Tracz) of Round Lake Beach, Ill., Cathy (Bill Meyers) of Cashton, and Kevin (Kathy Mitby) of Cashton. Lester worked in construction, farming and at the creamery. He enjoyed coon hunting, and working with horses, mules and dogs. He also enjoyed playing cards and reading westerns. He loved spending time with his friends and family. Lester will be missed dearly by 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Earl (Shirley) of Lodi, Wis., and Laverne (Jean) of Arizona; along with many nieces,nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother; two sons, Donavon and Francis; and one grandchild, John Peterson. Lester and Ramala were thankful for the wonderful love and support of the hospice program and would prefer memorials be directed to the hospice program, Torkelson Memorial Library or to Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Masses said in Lester's name. A Mass of Christian burial to celebrate Lester's life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cashton. Father Steiner and Pastor Jason Stanton will officiate. Friends and family are invited for visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, at Torkelson Funeral Home in Cashton. Visitation will also be Monday, Dec. 4, from 9 to 10:45 a.m. at Torkelson Funeral home. Torkelson Funeral Home in Cashton is assisting the family with arrangements.
