  Wilbert W. Schmitz, 73, Rt. 3, Sparta, died Monday, March 20, 19 89 in St. Mary's Hospital.He was born May 13, 1915 on St. Mary's Ridge, Monroe County, to Martin a nd Mary (Brueggen) Schmitz.He married Katherine Ann Kast April 14, 1941 on St. Mary's Ridge. He a nd his wife farmed in Ontario-Sparta area all their married lives.Survivors include his wife, six sons, Clayton, Bryon, Martin, Sylvan and M arvin, all of Sparta, and David of Reedsburg; five daughters, Beatrice Pfa ff, Sharon Weiner and Marian Harrie, all of Sparta. Ardella Pieper of Cash ton, and Kristine Whipple of Marshfield; two brothers, Hubert of Norwalk a nd Frederick of Cashton; two sisters, Amelia Williams of Cashton and Em ma Pieper of Caledonia, MN; 18 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter and four brothers.Services were Wednesday in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Rev. Mark W alljasper officiating. Burial was in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemete ry, Wilton.
