peter heitling wrote: Dear James, You asked me to try to find s omething more about GERARDUS HERMSEN.So I visited the regional archives of the eastern part of the province Noo rd-Brabant in the city Grave. I learned there as next:Before 1942 there were 2 communities: Vierlingsbeek and Maashees, with the ir own registry. To Maashees ressorted also the villages Overloon and Holthees. The registry of Vierlingsbeek is burnt down in 1927, but of the most impor tant documents were copies.I could find the birth-registry of Gerardus Hermsen. His father was also c alled Gerardus Hermsen. The father was born in 1786 and died Oktober 26, 1 827. He was a carpenter. His mother was Johanna Geertrui Janssen (NOTE: Janssen is the most comm on surname in the Netherlands).Gerardus Hermsen had one brother: Johannes Hermsen, born December 23, 181 3. I had not enough time to find out, what happened to him.Gerardus Hermsen married with Elisabeth Geurts on April 23, 1847 in Vierli ngsbeek. (This is curious; maybe they ressorted under the roman catholic c hurch in Vierlingsbeek, maybe they "met" each other in the village betwe en there homes)Parents of Elisabeth Geurts were Petrus Geurts and Geertrui Wigbers (the l ast surname is not sure, because it was very difficult to read) from Boxme er.I had not enough time to find out more about these parents, but the re is a good registry of Boxmeer. In the Netherlands Gerardus Hermsen and Elisabeth Geurts got 3 children: P eter, Geertruida and Johannes Hubertus.Probably it is possible to find out, when these people emigrated to the U. S.I had only half a day to spend in the archives. The use of the archiv es is free and sometimes a clerk is so kind to give some help. Only photoc opies and prints of microfilms must be paid. I got prints of microfil ms of the marriage of Gerardus and Elisabeth, of the birth of children Gee rtrui and Peter, and of the birth of the brother of Gerardus. The last o ne was in French, because in that time the Netherlands were occupied by t he troops of Napoleon!I hope to return to the archives soon and find out more for you. Please send me your address, so that I can send you the prints, I got a nd will get.
Then I ask you for help for my own genealogic researches:First I look for any information of Theresa Hermsen, who lived in Cincinna ti and was the spouse of Clemens Heitling. Theresa Hermsen is born Novemb er 15, 1836 in Neunkirchen (Germany) and died February 18, 1920 in Cincinn ati, Ohio. She had one daughter, Lizzie, who had the surname Sasse. So I s uppose, that Theresa Hermsen Married twice: Once with a man Sasse and wh en he died, with my grand-grand-grand-grand-uncle Clemens Heitling. Is there any connection with any other Hermsen in the U.S.A.?Second: Do you have acces to the books or CD’s: "Germans to Americ a" by Glazier and Filby? There are several people named Heitling in the se records, especially in part 56.NOTE: I search for people with the name HEITLING. Not only my grand-grand- grand-granduncle Clemens and his brother August emigrated to America. The re is also a Heitling-Family that immigrated about 1889 from Waren, German y, to Wisconsin. They are mentioned in the books of Glazier and Filby, but there is no libr ary in the Netherlands, where I can take a look.Descendants of these people live still in America and I had some contact w ith them. But they did not know a lot of their ancestors and relatives. E. g. I found at the website of the Latter Day Saints, that in 1906, Septemb er 18th married Clara Heitling with William Wendt in Kaukauna, Outagami e, Wisconsin.Nobody knows anything about her. Your suggestions are very welcome.
Every suggestion or information is welcome, of course.James, I hope you can help me a bit and when I visited the archives I wi ll sent you more about the Hermsen-ancestors.
