  Aileen N. Beggs, former long-time resident of Clintonville,WI, died at her home in Severn MD, on Friday, 10 August, 2007. She was born Aileen Noonan on 29 March, 1914, in Oconto, WI, daughter of Mary Jane "Jennie" Herald Noonan and John J. Noonan of that city. Coming from a proud Irish family, she attended St. Joseph's Catholic Grade School, and then graduated from Oconto High School in 1932. As a student she was active in debate, dramatics, and on the staff of the school and local newspaper. On 25 June, 1934, in Oconto, she married Keith R. Beggs, of St. Croix Falls, WI, moving to Clintonville that year. The couple had seven children. As a young mother, she still found time to be active in the Junior and Senior Woman's Clubs, the Altar Society at St. Rose church, bridge marathons, Dance Club, American Legion Auxiliary, and other civic activities. One of her proudest achievements was her assumption of leadership responsibility for quarterly blood drives in support of the American Red Cross, a vital task she performed for many years. In 1950, Aileen began employment as a Nurse's Aide in the Clintonville Community Hospital. She found the work interesting and rewarding and studied regularly to improve her skills. In 1955, she became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), and was assigned to the OB/GYN ward on the third floor. She loved taking care of mothers and their newborn babies. Every one of them was special to her, and she later recalled them with great affection. In 1978, Keith and Aileen moved to Severn, MD to help care for her seriously ill granddaughter, Elizabeth Schmidt. She became the day nurse for Elizabeth, and lovingly performed that duty until Elizabeth died some eighteen years later. Aileen left the hospital in the mid seventies but continued to study nursing. She received her AA Degree from Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, MD. Aileen then completed the requirements for a degree in nursing at the University of the State of New York. In 1989, three months after her 75th birthday, Aileen fulfilled her lifelong goal of becoming a Registered Nurse (RN). While living in Maryland, she was an active member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Severn. Aileen was predeceased by her husband Keith Beggs, her infant son Robert, her parents, her brothers: John, Kenneth, Philip, Richard, Robert, and Jerome; her sisters: Genevieve and Kathryn, and her granddaughter Elizabeth Schmidt. She is survived by her children: Patricia Grote, Long Beach, CA; Richard(Anne) Beggs, Clintonville; Barbara Beggs and Mary Kay Beggs, Severn, MD; Kenneth Beggs, Mendota IL; and Jane (Robert) Schmidt, Severn, MD.Grandchildren are Deborah Luther, Riverside, CA; Kenneth Grote, Long Beach, CA; Rick Beggs of Sterling, VA; Michael (Debbie) Beggs of Leesburg, VA; Diane (Jay) Dunn of Haymarket, VA; Barbara J. Beggs of Albuquerque, NM; Allison (John) Wollenburg of Red Lodge, MT; Emily Knoll of Red Lodge, MT; Keith (Julie) Beggs of Naperville, IL; Kathryn Schmidt, Ellicott City, MD and Andrew Schmidt of Severn, MD; 23 Great-Grandchildren, and a Great-Great Granddaughter. Aileen's children wish to express their respect and admiration for their mother's enormous strength of character and her unconditional love. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, 16 August, 2007, at the Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home in Clintonville, WI. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, 17 August, 2007, at St. Rose Catholic Church in Clintonville, with the Rev. Benjamin Sember officiating. Burial will be beside her husband Keith in Graceland Cemetery, Clintonville.
