  Leonard J. Vaness, age 52, of Brillion, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2006, after a nine month battle against pancreatic cancer. He was the code administrator for the Planning and Zoning Department in Calumet County and had worked there for 25 years. He enjoyed wildlife and framed many pieces of art for non-profit organizations. He had a great passion for the outdoors and was very active in the Brillion Nature Center, the Green Bay and Appleton chapters of the Ruffed Grouse Society, the Brillion Boss Toms, and many other conservation organizations. Len is survived by his wife Lorelei; two sons: Jerrod and his fiancee Jenny Vermeern of Menasha, Bryan of Brillion; a daughter, Brenda Vaness of Regina, Saskatchewan; his parents, Alvin and Eleanor Vaness of New Franken; two brothers: Joe of New Franken, Bob (Carol) of Green Bay and their family Katie and Bobby. His wish was to be cremated. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, December 30, at 11 a.m., at Holy Family Catholic Church in Brillion. Father Matt Simonar will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of mass. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Brillion Nature Center, 315 So. Main St., Brillion, WI 54110. The Wieting Funeral Home in Brillion is assisting the family with arrangements.
