  Selma B. Splitgerber Maas, 93, of Green Bay, went to her heavenly home on Dec. 27, 2007. She was born in the town of Washington on Dec. 7, 1914, to the late Paul and Ella (Lemke) Lemke. After graduating from Shawano High School, Selma began her teaching career in a one-room school house in the town of Cecil. Selma then moved to Green Bay and taught in Green Bay and the Green Bay area schools, including Champion, Pine Grove, Benderville, Wequiock, Oak Grove, and retiring from Ann Sullivan after 40 years touching the lives of many students. She was married to Ervin Splitgerber (deceased) from 1935-1957. In 1974, she was married to Kermit Maas from Tilleda, Wis.; he preceded her in death in 2001. During her life, she enjoyed fishing at White Clay Lake, camping, sewing and crafting. She loved dancing, working on puzzles, playing games, cards and dominos, and spending time with her family and friends. In retirement, she and Kermit traveled the world, including Europe, China, the Holy Land, Australia and to several islands in the South Pacific. They also visited Russia, Egypt and all 50 states, many times. An extra joy in her travels was collecting bird ornaments for her Christmas tree. Selma and Kermit also shared their travel stories and slide shows at senior centers and various nursing homes. Following her retirement, she also volunteered for numerous organizations, including the Brown County Senior Center, the Cerebral Palsy Center, C.E.S.A. 7 and the YMCA, as well as the Brown County Library. Selma was a member of the Brown County Teachers Association, GBA, and a longtime member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church. Survivors include two sons, Robert Splitgerber, De Pere; Wayne (Beverly) Splitgerber, Green Bay; one daughter, Kathleen (James) Poels, Green Bay; four grandchildren, Steven DeMille, Beverly Hills, CA, David (Jean) Splitgerber, Waterford, Wisc., Matthew Poels, Green Bay, and Laura Poels, Green Bay; and two great-grandchildren, Jason and Derek Splitgerber, Waterford, Wis. She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. Friends may call at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 120 S. Henry St., Green Bay, from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday. Funeral Service 7 p.m. Sunday at the church, with David Hatch, Pastor, officiating. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Shawano, Wis. Proko-Wall Funeral Home is assisting the family. The family wishes to express deep gratitude to the staff at Rennes Nursing Center and Pastor David Hatch at Our Saviour Lutheran Church.
