  Ervin C. Popke 99, New London, passed into eternal life on Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, in New London. Ervin was born on May 16, 1909, in Tigerton, and spent his early years working and playing on his family's farm. He also worked alongside his father at the logging camps. Ervin moved to New London when he was 18 and took a job working at Borden's (Saputo Cheese USA, Inc.) in New London, for 48 years. He married Nina Beckert and they spent over 60 years together. They retired to their home on beautiful North Twin Lake in Phelps, Wis., just north of Eagle River. They spent their golden years with good friends and long warm summer afternoons feeding the ducks and catching walleyes from their dock and watching the waves roll off the rocks. Ervin is survived by his grandsons, Norm (Julie) Wegner and Mark (Candy) Wegner; granddaughter, Lisa (Mitch) Ayers; great-grandchildren, Micah and Matthew Wegner, William Cain, Megan and Brock Wegner and Dominic Ayers. He is further survived by his younger brother, Louis (Alice) Popke, Merced, Calif.; and special friends, Mona Haight and Hilda and Ken Glocke. Ervin was preceded in death by his wife, Nina; a daughter, Ardeen Wegner; his parents and a brother and sister. Funeral services for Ervin will be held on Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Emanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, New London, with the Rev. William Heiges officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hill Cemetery, New London. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
