  Donald B. Rentmeester, 88, Green Bay, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at Wyndemere Assisted Living. He was born March 21, 1920, in Green Bay, to Peter and Mary (Hessel) Rentmeester. He graduated from Annunciation Grade School and in 1939, graduated from Green Bay West High School. On Jan. 24, 1942, he married Edna Mae Butterfield in Camp Perry, Ohio. During World War II, Don served in General George Patton's Third Army as a Tech Sergeant. He landed at Normandy on the second day of the European invasion. After the war, Don was employed with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1977. Mr. Rentmeester was skilled in construction and had a photographic memory. He built his own home and his cottage. Mr. Rentmeester was a longtime Packers fan and a longtime season ticketholder. Don was a member of St. Willebrord Parish. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and James Shaw, Issaquah, Wash.; Mary and Michael Koslowski, Little Suamico; eight grandchildren, Andrea Allen, James Cox, Patrick Koslowski, Kyle Koslowski, Jami Gerhardt, Greg Shaw, Rebecca Gauthier, Mike Koslowski, Jr.; a great-grandson, Austin; a sister-in-law, Violet Butterfield, Green Bay; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Mae in 1973; two sisters, Rosella "Sally" Rentmeester, Eleanor Wauters; and a brother, Isidore "Frip" Rentmeester. Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 11 a.m. until noon on Sunday. The funeral service will be held at noon on Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. The Rentmeester family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Wyndemere for their loving care of Don during his illness.
