Elmer Emil Seelig, 87, formerly of Clintonville, entered into eternal life on Saturday March 7, 2009, at Brewster Village in Appleton, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Born September 29, 1921, in the Town of Little Wolf, Waupaca County, the son of the late Otto and Martha (Riske) Seelig, Elmer spent his early life in the Town of Wyoming, near Big Falls. As a young man, he served his country in the US Army from 1945 to 1946. He was united in marriage to Arbutus Thompson on September 23, 1948. With his family, he shared the love of camping, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and especially old-time polka music. The memory of these activities, his soft-spoken nature and kind sense of humor will long be a part of all who knew him. Over the years, in addition to farming, Elmer was employed by FWD Corporation for 33 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Christus Lutheran Church, the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #367, and a lifetime member of Arthur Gensler VFW Post 664. He had a special fondness for children and particularly enjoyed the times shared with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In his later years, he looked forward to the children's visits during his stay at Brewster Village and through his association with the Moose Family Center. Together, he and his former wife Arbutus Seelig-Krueger, raised six children, Barbara (Roger) Steinke, Appleton; Duaine (Pamela) Seelig, Clintonville; Calvin Seelig, Sun Prairie; Daryl (Charlene) Seelig, Shawano; Cheryl Mills (special friend Peter), Greenville and Vicky (Barry) Motl, Greenville; He is further survived by 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; his sister Helen Miller, and sister-in-law Karen Seelig. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Martha (Riske) Seelig, his brother, Clarence, an infant brother Clayton, and brother-in-law, Franklin Miller. Elmer knew the treasure of many friends, family and extended family. As many went before him, he held dear the fond memories. Elmer was especially appreciative of those who remain and remembered him often with cards and visits during his extended illness. Your kindness brightened his days. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Christus Lutheran Church, Clintonville, WI, with the Rev. Brian Crocker officiating. Burial will take place at Big Falls Cemetery, Big Falls, WI in the spring. Friends and family may call on Monday, March 9, 2009, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home in Clintonville, and on Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials which will be shared with Brewster Village, Christus Lutheran Church, VFW Post 664, Loyal Order of Moose, and Clintonville Veterans Memorial.
