Wisneski, Dr. John M. Dr. John M. Wisneski passed peacefully from this life at home, surrounded by loving family on Wednesday, June 6, 2012. He was born on Jan. 15, 1946 in Stevens Point to Walter and Maxine (Krygier) Wisniewski. John and his wife of 40 years, Mary (Franck), took their wedding vows on April 29, 1972 at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Wauwatosa, WI. John graduated from Berlin High School in 1964, where he excelled as a student and athlete. Upon graduation, he attended Carroll University, Waukesha, where he majored in biology. He continued his passion for sports and lettered in track and football, leading the defense his senior year. He was very active in campus life, serving in service organizations and student government. Many of his favorite memories were linked to his fraternity, Beta Pi Epsilon. John attended Marquette University School of Dentistry, graduating with honors in 1972. Having been in the Naval Reserve Dental Corps while at Marquette, he served actively with the First Marine Division, FMF, Camp Pendleton, CA where he was a lieutenant, stationed at the San Mateo Clinic, beginning in June, 1972. Upon completion of his service, he and Mary moved to La Crosse, where he practiced dentistry until his retirement in 2005. While in La Crosse, John was active in the La Crosse Area Dental Society, holding several offices, including president. Throughout his life he was a passionate outdoorsman, enjoying deer-hunting on his land near Ettrick, pheasant-hunting in Iowa and the Dakotas, and fishing area rivers and trout streams. His love of fly-fishing took him to some of the most beautiful natural areas on earth. Summers found him frequently in Montana, Wyoming, and Alaska. The pristine waters of Chilean Patagonia and remote Alaska "restored his soul" and the fish he released left incomparable memories. John and Mary took their last fly-fishing trip to Venezuela in 2009. He was a life member of Trout Unlimited. We celebrate John as a loving, good man who lived a full and purpose-filled life, balancing caring for others with fun and adventure. We will all miss him. John is survived by the "loves of his life": Mary, daughters Sarah of Minneapolis and Christa of Eureka, CA, mother Maxine Brill of Appleton, sisters Jean Howard and Mary Stark of Walnut Creek, CA, Sara (Joe) Peters of Appleton, Jill Lawson of Neenah, and Patti Seidl of Colorado Springs, CO. He is also survived my many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter. The family wishes to thank the many friends, neighbors, university students, caregivers, and medical staff at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Gundersen Lutheran, and the VA who provided support, companionship, and care over the years of John's illness. We thank NASA for their tremendous service to the elderly and disabled, and finally, the hospice team at G/L for their caring presence over the past few months. Visitation will be Sunday, June 10th from 4-7:00 pm at English Lutheran Church, La Crosse. A celebration of John's life will be Monday at 11:00, preceded by visitation at 10:00. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (theAFTD.org), Trout Unlimited (TU.org), or English Lutheran Church.
