  George A. Patterson, 86 of Appleton, died Sunday January 8, 2012 at his residence. He was born January 10, 1925, in Merillan, WI, son of the late, Percy and May (Caldwell) Patterson. George served his country in the U.S. Army-Air Corp. He worked for the City of Appleton Sanitation Department for 18 years, retiring in 1986. He was a former member of the American Legion. George enjoyed camping, and was an avid Milwaukee Brewer fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and his many friends. You could always hear George whistling, humming, or singing a tune. George is survived by his loving wife, Doris; two sons, William (Linda), Fort Worth, Texas, and Gary (Marilyn), Appleton; two daughters, Sharon (Randy)Marquardt, Appleton, and Michelle (Alan) Nabbefeld, Appleton; daughter-in-law, Robin Patterson, Darboy; 13 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Geraldine (Ken) Wry, Marshfield; and sister-in-law, Joyce Groves, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael; a daughter-in-law, Kathleen; two sisters and their husbands, Grace and Roger Burnett, and Olive and Ted Panzenhagen; brother-in-law, Cliff; and his life-long friends, Boyd and Beverly Burr. Funeral service will be at 5:00 PM on Wednesday January 11, 2012 at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Mike L. Huff, officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday beginning at 3:00 PM until the hour of service. George's family would like to thank the Appleton First Responders for their care and compassion.
