  Karen Burton, 65, formerly of Appleton, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2011, in Greenville, Miss. Karen was born on December 27, 1945, in Appleton, daughter of the late Cyril "Cy" and Dorothy (Rippl) Burton. Karen was a graduate of Xavier High School in Appleton, as well as the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. There she earned her degree for teaching developmentally disabled students. Karen taught in the Appleton area for many years and after relocating to Greenville, Miss., she owned and operated Winterville County Store. She is survived by her brothers and sisters, Jerry Burton, Appleton; Mary (Bob) Lamers, Kaukauna; Ellen (John Heydenreich) Burton, Culpeper, Va.; and a sister-in-law, LuAnn Burton, Appleton. There are also many nieces and nephews, as well as her long-time companion, Mike Winters. A private family service will be held in Appleton at a later date.
