  Donald W. Missling 83, Appleton, passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Cherry Meadows Hospice following a brief illness. Don was born in the Town of Ellington on December 19, 1932, to the late Arnold and Vadyn (Patient) Missling. On May 11, 1957 he was united in marriage to Rhea Breuer at St. John's Ev. Reformed Church. They shared 58 years together. Don enjoyed playing softball, golf and hunting and fishing. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. Don worked in the paper industry for 40 years, receiving the Golden Eagle Award. The last 24 years were with Steen-Macek Paper Company as a sales consultant. After retirement he enjoyed woodworking projects. He was a member of the Appleton American Legion Post #38 and longtime member of First English Lutheran Church. He and Rhea enjoyed many years of playing cribbage with close friends, Al and Carolyn. Don was very proud of his three perfect hands. Don is survived by his wife, Rhea; two sons: Thomas Missling (fiancé, Anne), Appleton and Todd (Cindy) Missling, Falling Water, WV; a sister, Marlene Missling, Appleton and the apple of his eye, granddaughter, Cariann Missling. He was preceded in death by his parents. A funeral service for Don will be held at 2 PM, Thursday, March 24, 2016 at First English Lutheran Church (326 E North St.) Appleton with Rev. Jeff Tengesdal officiating. Burial will take place at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Friends may visit the family directly at church on Thursday from 12 PM (Noon) until the time of service. Military Honors will be performed by American Legion Post #38 following the services. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made out to an organization of your choice in Don's name.
