  Kate was born Catherine A. Boyd to Joshua Johnson Boyd and Catherine (Homstead) Boyd about 1827/28, likely at Mackinac Island, Mackinac Co., Michigan. She was a grandaughter of Col. George Boyd and Harriet (Johnson) Boyd. Catherine's paternal grandmother was a sister-in-law of President John Quincy Adams. Kate was about 4 years old when her father, Joshua Johnson, was killed in 1832. 'Catherine Boyds' and' James D. Porlier' were married in Brown County, marriage certificate dated August 7, 1850. Kate died of tuberculosis at West De Pere aged about 70 years. Her obituary was published in the 'DePere News' on September 8, 1897. 'Cath A. Porlin', died 2 Sep 1897.
