Mrs. Katherine Kiefer, who had been ill for several weeks, died Saturday, Feb. 13, at the home of her son, John Kiefer, with whom she had been living for the last nine years. She was born in the state of Illinois on April 5, 1869, and lived later at Menomonee Falls, Wis., before coming to Stockbridge in Calumet County, where she was married to Michael Kiefer when she was 19 years old. Mr. and Mrs. Kiefer later operated a hotel and tavern at Sherwood win what is now the Norman Dorn place, until the death of Mr. Kiefer on April 20, 1934. Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Kiefer came to Forest Junction, where the only son of the family was operating a Standard service station. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Louis Dorn, Hilbert; Mrs. Nic Janty, Stockbridge; Mrs. Roman Feef, Milwaukee and Mrs. Orville Versteegen, Forest Jct.; one son, John, at Forest Junction; four sisters, Mrs. Andrew Schomisch, New Holstein; Mrs. Lena Horn and Mrs. Aug. Grimm, Milwaukee and Mrs. Rose Dorn, Neenah; twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. They body was at the Orville Versteegen home until 9 o'clock Wednesday morning when it was removed to Stockbridge, where a funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Theodore Kersten at St. Mary's church, followed by burial in St. Mary's cemetery. Chilton Times – February 18, 1943
