  James Peter Foley, age 83, of Hortonville passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2013, peacefully at Appleton Medical Center. James was born on November 11, 1929, in Shawano, Wisconsin, son of Peter and Mayme (Popells) Foley. On September 5, 1955, he married Ruth Schmidt Foley. James served in the Armed Services. Upon his return he owned and operated Foley's Tap for 10 years as well as Hortonville Lumber for 17 years. James continued his work as a Field Adjustor for Ellington Mutual Insurance until his retirement at the age of 62. James was a life-long member of the St. Peter and Paul Parish where he was a dedicated member of the choir. His true passion began 60 years ago when he became a member of the American Legion Post 55 as a drill commander. Spanning these 60 years he spent the past 39 years reaching out to the youth in schools and organizing military presence for veterans' funerals. James' other interests included fishing and gardening. He was an active member of the community and could be seen as the neighborhood handy man. James is survived by his wife, Ruth of 57 years; sister, Helen Paulik; brother-in-law, Loran Hurley; sisters-in-law, Gerri Foley and Susan (David) Schroeder; and several nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his wife Ruth's parents, Otto and Florence Schmidt; brother, Tom Foley; sister, Marge Hurley; and brother-in-law, Les Paulik. A funeral Mass for James will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church, 105. N. Olk St., Hortonville with Fr. James Feely and Parish Director Greg Layton officiating. Family and friends may gather directly at church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be at the parish cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the AMC Cancer Center staff as well as Theda Care at Home Hospice for their care and concern.
