  See Image Van Asten, Josephine E. Formerly of FreedomAge 91, went to meet her Lord on April 20, 2002, in Appleton. She was bo rn to the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Hietpas) Van Handel on February 16, 1 911, in the Township of Vandenbroek. She married Martin Van Asten in Litt le Chute on November 19, 1936. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage togethe r. She was a loving mother, grandmother and wife who was a very generous a nd caring provider for her family. She will always be remembered for her s mile and her year's of Christmas gatherings for four generations of her fa mily. Josephine enjoyed spending time with her in-laws, especially duri ng a game of cards.Josephine is survived by her husband Martin; six sons: Merlin (Janice) V an Asten of Freedom, Marvin (Mary) Van Asten of Freedom, Carl (Sharon) V an Asten of Appleton, Wayne (Ann) Van Asten of Appleton, Lyle Van Asten a nd special friend Bette Handel of Wrightstown, and Jack (Pauline) Van Ast en of Freedom; two daughters: Delores (Ronald) Mischler of Kaukauna and Lo is (Lloyd) Schuessler of Kaukauna; 33 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchil dren; two brothers: Earl Van Handel of Little Chute and Raymond (Margare t) Van Handel of Little Chute; three sisters: Anna Paalman of Kimberly, Ma rth (Ray) Woldt of Appleton, and Barbara (Anthony) Sprague of Kimberly.Josephine is preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter Carol, t hree grandchildren; two sisters: Cora Van Handel and infant Barbara; two b rothers: Raymond Van Handel, Ed (Blache) Van Handel, and infant Theodore V an Handel; two sisters-in-law: Audrey Van Handel and Josephine Micke; a nd three brothers-in-law: Joe Paalman, Buzz Petersen and Leo Vander Heiden .The funeral liturgy will be at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at S t. Nicholas Catholic Church, N4088 County Trunk E, Freedom, with Fr. Denn is Ryan officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monda y, April 22, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church from 11:00 a .m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at the parish cemetery a fter the liturgy.The family extends a special thank you to the staff of Parkside Care Cent er and to Appleton Medical Center for their good care of Josephine and h er family.
