Jan 13, 1908; KAUKAUNA Dennis McC arthy is fatally injuredDennis McCarthy fell Saturday and broke his hip, also fractured two ribs a nd is in a precarious condition on account of his age 89 years. Up to t he present time he has been quite active and at the time the accident happ ened was trying to put up a stove pipe on the roof of the shed kitchen whi ch the wind had blown down. He mounted the roof on a ladder and took a cha ir along to stand on, when the chair slipped and he fell from the ro of to the ground, about eight feet, breaking his right hip. Mr. McCart hy is the father of county Treasurer Joseph McCarty [nb. I'm typing th is as printed - this line usually spells their name McCarty. The newspape rs seem to use McCarthy/McCarty interchangeably], and is one of the pione er settlers of Kaukauna. It is feared the injury will cause his death as s uch wounds at his age do not readily heal.

  DENNIS MCCARTY DISOBEYS ADMONITION AND IS SERIOUSLY INJURED. Dennis McCarty, one of the oldest residents of the city and father of County Treasurer J. J. McCarty was seriously injured by a fall Saturday. Not withstanding that his daughters had warned him against doing so, he climbed to the roof of the kitchen to adjust a pipe on the chimney and fell to the ground a distance of one story. No one was home at the time and it is not known how long he lay where he fell. He finally managed to crawl into the house where his daughter Mayme found him upon her return. He sufferd a fractured hip and also fractured several ribs. Mr. McCarty reached the roof with the aid of a ladder and took a camp chair with him which is supposed to have closed when he stood on it, causing him to lose his balance. On account of his age, 93 years, his recovery is doubtful.

  Dennis McCarty passed away at his home on Taylor Street this Friday morni ng at two o'clock at the ripe old age of nearly 90 years. His next birthd ay would have been February 10. His death came from disease incident to o ld age. The day before he died he sat out on the porch in the sunlight, a nd was up town Monday to be shaved. he had been seriously ailing though f ro the past two months and had been in bed considerable of the time duri ng that period. Dennis McCarty was born in Cork county, Ireland, and came to America in 18 45, to Quebec, and afterwards to St. Johns, N.B. He was married at Osweg o, NY to Margaret Tobin sixty years ago and soon after came west to Gre en Bay, settling afterwards on the farm one mile north of Kaukauna whi ch he left sixteen years ago when his wife died and he then moved to th is city. The first child born on the farm was former mayor Joseph McCart y, deceased. Thirteen children were born to them, nine of whom are still l iving as follows: Florence J., St. Paul; Mrs. Ellen Baldwin, Georgiana, Fl orida; Mrs. Annie Glenn, Northport, Washington; Thomas, Salt Lake City; Mr s. John Flanagan, Tomahawk, WI; Mrs. Barney Corcoran, Katherine, Richard a nd Mary of Kaukauna. There are 39 living grandchildren--51 were born and t here are 4 great-grandchildren making a numerous progeny. Built of sterner material than most men, Mr. McCarty lived to a ripe old a ge after passing through the pioneer's life of hard-ships clearing up h is farm and building his home. Only two years ago his activity caused h im a serious fall from the roof of his home breaking several ribs and suf fering other internal injuries which would have caused the death of a le ss hardy person. The funeral will be held from Holy Cross church Monday morning at nine o' clock and be conducted by Monsignor P. J. Lochman. KAUKAUNA NEWS; Dennis McCARTY died Friday morning at 2 o'clock, at the age of ninety years, general debility causing the end. He has been confined to his home on Taylor street since Monday. Mr. McCARTY was born at Cork, Ireland, and has resided in Kaukauna forty-seven years. Daughter, Mrs. Anna GLENN of North Port Washington, Mrs. Ellen BALDWIN of Florida, Mrs. Lottie FLANAGAN of Tomahawk. Mrs. Margaret CORCORAN and Misses Mayme and Katharine of Kaukauna, and three sons, Thomas and Florence of Minnesota, and Richard of Kaukauna. One brother, Charles, father of Michael McCARTY who was murdered by Wenzel KABAT, resides at Mankato, Kansas. Mr. McCARTY has forty grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The funeral services will be held Monday morning at nine o'clock from Holy Cross church. Rev. Father LOCHMAN officiating. The pallbearers will be his sixgrandchildren, Joseph and Raymond McCARTY, Michael and Gilbert CORCORAN, and William and Daniel McCARTY.

  DENNIS McCARTY, who for thirty-five years was engaged in agricultural purs uits in Kaukauna township, was one of the early residents and honored citi zens of this place, and in his death this section lost one more of its stu rdy pioneer farmers who did so much towards building up and developing Out agamie county and its interests. Dennis McCarty was a native of Ireland, t he country which has given us so many energetic and reliable citizens, a nd came to the United States with his father at the age of twelve years, t he family locating first in New York. He was married in that State to Marg aret Tobin, also a native of the Emerald Isle, and in 1854 they came to Wi sconsin, locating first at Maple Grove, and later moving to Green Bay, whe re they resided for several years. In 1862 Mr. McCarty came to Kaukauna, W isconsin, by ox-team, and purchasing an undeveloped farm, resided there th irty-five years and built up a large homestead and well cultivated propert y. During his latter years he retired from activities, and after 18 yea rs of quiet life, he passed away February 4, 1910. He and his wife, w ho is also deceased, were the parents of the following children: Mary, Dan iel and Charles, who are deceased, the latter being a prominent attorney a nd at one time the largest grower of pineapples in the world; Ellen, wid ow of Asia Minor Baldwin and resides in Arizona; Margaret, who married Bar ney Corcoran, a resident of Kaukauna and has a family of eleven childre n; Florin John, who married Susan Brennen; Joseph, deceased; Catherine, re siding in Arizona; Thomas, who lives in Portland, Oregon; Anna, who marri ed L. B. Glenn, of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin; Richard, who married An na B. Merkle, of Grand Chute; Charlotte, who married John Flanagan, of Tom ahawk, Wisconsin; Mary; and one child that died in infancy. The fami ly is connected with the Holy Cross Catholic Church.
