  See Image Nicholas Kavanaugh aged 69 years and f or 47 years a resident of this vicinity, departed this life Wednesday morn ing at 2:30 from complications from pneumonia from which he was stricken a bout a week ago. Mr. Kavanaugh was called to Antigo about a week ago by t he death of his brother Edward Kavanaugh and while their contracted a seve re cold which developed into pneumonia. His case was not thought very seri ous until Monday when there was a sudden change for the worse and he fail ed till death came Wednesday morning. Mr. Kavanaugh was born in County T ipperary Ireland November 15, 1843 and came to this country at age of 21 y ears settling at Lowell, Massachusetts removing one year afterwards to App leton where he resided for several years. On August 25, 1868 he was unit ed in marriage to Miss Mary Dorn at St. Mary's Church at Appleton, 12 chil dren blessing this union, three of whom are dead. In 1878 Mr. and Mrs. Kav anaugh moved to the town of Freedom where Mr. Kavanaugh spent many strenuo us days is clearing up a Homestead. Mr. Kavanaugh is widely known not on ly in Freedom, but in the entire community and the report of his sudden de ath which spread rapidly, came as a shock to his numerous friends who wi th sympathetic hearts extend their condolences to his sorrowing family. M r. Kavanaugh moved to Kaukauna two years ago retiring from the farming li fe, intending to spend his last days in comfort with his family. He w as a loving father and a devout Catholic. During his short residence in Ka ukauna, he made numerous friends and his smiling face and pleasant ways wi ll ever be missed. His wife died two years ago. Surviving the deceased a re his children: Tom of Buchanan, Mike and Mrs. John Mullen, of Wausau, E d, Miles City Montana, John, Freedom, Julia, Milwaukee and Alice and Jam es at home. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and one brother, Jo hn of this city and one sister, Mrs. Mary Neary of Oshkosh. The funeral wi ll be held Friday morning at St. Nicholas Catholic Church at Freedom and i nternment will be in the family lot in the parish Cemetery.

  Hello Jay, My name is Sue Kavanaugh Joos and I am the daughter of Dorothy Heaney Kavanaugh who you were in contact with regarding genealogy. There is a couple of us working hard on the Kavanaugh genealogy and have found a connection with the Powers family in a surprising place. The story goes as follows: Three Kavanaugh brothers (one of which was Nicholas my great grandfather) and a sister,Alice, were set to leave Ireland and come to the US. Before they were able to board, their parents became ill and Alice stayed to care for them. She then married Pat Clancy. Their son Thomas Clancy married Margaret Maher. Their daughter Alice Clancy (1910-2005 Ireland) married a Thomas Keane (Ireland). Folklore has it that Thomas Keane's parents were Margaret Powers and John Keane and their children were Thomas, Winifred, Margaret, John and Bridget. However, we cannot find any data on this Margaret Powers or Thomas Keane. Can you help on this? I also understand that you have futher research on my mom's side -- would you mind sharing? I have copied Phil Keane (Catherine Philomena Keane) who is married to a descendant of the Alice Kavanaugh in my story above and we are working together on this research.
