  From Elsbernd Family History 20023 Sep 1929 Entered O.S.F. Dubuque, IA. 10 Aug 1935 Final Profession of Vo ws (Sister Antoinette)Marie was born on July 25, 1910 in Festina, Iowa. She was the third olde st of eight children and continued to live and work in Festina until she e ntered Mount Saint Francis at the age of 19.During her growing-up days at Festina, Marie developed many skills as sheworked for farm families near her home: taking care of children, doing ho usework, helping in the fields and with the chores. In winter she was ve ry often in her home for about three months and would spend much time sewi ng.In 1929 Marie entered Mount St. Francis. She was received in 1930, made h er first Profession in 1932, and Perpetual Profession in 1935.On "mission," Sister Marie's assignments in domestic work gave her a pa rt in helping to build up the spirit of St. Francis in the places where t he Sisters were working. At various times she served in institutions whi ch the Sisters conducted: Mary of the Angels, Our Lady of Lourdes, St. Fra ncis Home, and the Immaculate Conception Academy. At other times, her "ob ediences" took her to the homes of Sisters who taught in parish school s: Stacyville, Melrose Park, Pomeroy, Bancroft, Ionia, Temple Hill, Dyers ville, and Pocahontas.Sister Marie also took a great interest in peace movements. In 1986 Sist er Marie began her last mission. She took up a ministry for theelderly at St. Thomas Parish, Rosebud Indian Reservation, in South Dakot a, home of the Lakota Tribe. Sister Marie took an active interest in t he life of the Lakota people, participating in many of their activitie s. She visited the lonely elderly, helped make patchwork quilts, and shar ed with the elderly when they gathered for the community meals prepared f or them. Sister Marie found enjoyment in the Tribal Event, the Elderly Ol ympics. To everyone's delight, she won several Olympic medals during vari ous tests.
