  Van Gompel, Leona E. AppletonAge 85, died on Monday, December 16, 2002 at Appleton Medical Center. Leo na was born on November 20, 1917, daughter of the late Albert and Anna (Me nting) Van Gompel. She was employed at Riverview Sanatorium in Little Chu te 30 years. Leona was a longtime member of St. Thomas More. She lov ed to pray the Rosary. Leona also enjoyed gardening, yard work, and helpi ng others, especially her family. She is survived by her 2 sisters, Germai ne (Marvin) Smith; and Theresa Dietzen. Leona is further survived by ma ny nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four sisters: Catheri ne Johnson; Marie Powless; Clara Houle; Helen Heckel; and three brother s: Elmer; Omer; and Willard Van Gompel. The Mass of Resurrection will be h eld at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, December 18, 2002, at ST. THOMAS MORE CATHOL IC CHURCH, 1810 North McDonald Street, Appleton, with Rev. Gerald Falk off iciating. The interment will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Appl eton. Friends will be received at the church on Wednesday, December 19 fr om 9 a.m. until the time of service. The family would like to extend the ir gratitude to the doctors and staff of the ICU at Appleton Medical Cente r."We have been blessed by your kind and tender love through the years.
