  From 4th great granddaughter Laci in January 2014; In your experience of years looking at family trees, do you think its a little odd that Joseph Sanders and his 3 third wife Mary lost four (5 according to Mary's Obit) children? It dose not appear that a sickness took any at the same time, but they all died in their toddler years. The reason I'm so interested is my girls have a rare genetic disorder that is European descent. Its called MCAD and if you don't know you have it there is an 80% mortality rate by the age of two. It was not discovered until the late 1980's so anyone that had it prior to that would probably have died early in life and it been labeled crib death. MCAD makes it where you can't break fat down into energy efficiently, so in a nut shell if your stomach is empty and you need energy and your body tries to break down fat it can't and has a metabolic crisis, which is similar to a diabetic sugar low but it happens a lot faster and is more serious. This crisis typically happens when a child is sick and your body uses a lot of energy and either can't hold food down or is not wanting to eat. My husband and I have no idea which sides of our families we inherited our defective gene. In order for our girls to have the disorder Shane and I must both be carriers of the gene. As carriers there are no effects and you have a healthy normal life because the normal gene takes over. If you have both defective genes, one from your mother and one from your father, and therefore having the disorder and know you have the disorder life is pretty normal other then have to eat all the time and stressing out your parents when you get sick. Back to my theory of Joseph and Mary, they could have both been carriers of the gene and therefore statistically 1/4 of their children would have the disorder and most likely die early in life. Joseph could also be the line that I inherited the gene from. Sorry for the long winded question. It all fascinates me.
