Born, and baptized on the following d ay, Gertrudis, the legitimate daughter of Joannes Diederich and of Ann Cla sen, married couple of Arbach. Presented at the holy baptismal font by Mat hia Schuller, married man of Kalenborn, and Anna Clasen, single, of Arbach .See Kirchenbuch Retterath, Abt 72/685, no. 2, p. 37, now preserved in t he Bistumsarchiv (diocesan archive) at Trier. Retterath is in the Archdioc ese of Trier.Gertrude came to the United States with her parents and until her marriag e, lived on their farm in Town of Lawrence, Brown County. According to t he 1880 Census reports, she could neither read nor write.The marriage of Philip Gitz and Gertrude Diderich (sic) is recorded in Bro wn County marriage records. See v. 5, p. 213. According to this record, t he ceremony was performed at the Roman Catholic Church in the Villa ge of De Pere by the Reverend W.A. Verbourt. Jos. Diderich was witness.His death certificate tells when and where Philip Goetz was born and die d. See Brown County death records, v. 9, p. 251.Brown County death records tell when and where his wife died. S ee v. 6, p. 148. Short obituaries were published in the Fort Howard Revi ew on 17 November 1888 (p. 4) and the State Gazette on 21 November 1888 ( p. 6).
